The Gods gradually grew tired of living alone, so they created Humans. A much lesser species that would serve as mere entertainment for them.

When the first Man and Woman came into existence, there was no sentience to be found inside them, they were essentially puppets for the Gods. They created more and more Humans until they realized that it was too tiring to control all of them. The God of Life, Eikthyrnir, gave all of the Humans sentience and free-thinking, despite being told not to by Oanh. From there the Humans would go on to create civilization as we know it today. Whether it was the right call to give them sentience or not, is still to be decided.
