Sand Skater

Large Omnivorous creatures, indigenous to the deserts of Vardt. One of the first creations of Behemoth Voroleth.   Sand Skaters are most commonly utilized for transporting Dune Freighters. Though upon death, they also secrete a substance called Rens'ein. As the creature gets older the body starts to make a shift towards Rens'ein gland growth. This means the substance is in higher quantities as the creature is older. If you were to kill a young Skater in order to harvest the substance it would not yield much.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They are about 25 feet long at full maturity, they have a skinny body with wing like flaps along their bodies. Their skin is rough and rock-like. Primarily from exposure to the sun and sand. They have 6 long skinny legs with 3 webbed phalanges that they can open and close at will. Their slender legs and body allow them to immerse the lower half of their body into the sand and use the wing-flaps to propel themselves in the sand.

Growth Rate & Stages

Maturity is reached around 4 years of age, where they then start looking for a mate. Skaters hatch without legs and develop them as they get older. As babies they are more vulnerable to predators. When hatched they can be anywhere from 3-5 feet in length.
