The Dusk Rose
Basic Information
Anatomy
The stem of a Flore Gelidus is measured at 30 to 42 inches tall. It is thick, and dark purple in colour. The stem is often riddled with razor sharp thorns, which have to be picked off (normally using thick leather, or preferably steel gauntlets), before the stem can be used. The Dusk Rose leaves range in colour from dark green to purple, to completely black. They are pinnate leaves, and as such have a feather like texture associated with common roses; their veins however do not grow on the same axis, and as such the flower looks much less symmetrical than a common rose.
In their Prime, Dusk Roses have a relatively high petal count, but with only one bud per flower. They come in a spectrum of dark colours with white and black splotches. The petals themselves create a mirage effect surrounding the whole plant. This effect is only present when the plant is mature, and is often used as an identifying factor.

Uses, Products & Exploitation
The Dusk Rose is a healers dream. Liquid distilled from a single petal can be used to used to replace almost any other ingredient of healing potions. A tea made from Dusk Rose Hips soothes the mind and can aid in healing ailments such as shell shock, hallucinations and hysteria. The stem can be chewed for an effect similar to cocaine, and even if you fail to pick the stem, the painful pricks are likely to wake you up all the same. Oil from a Dusk Rose is used by Olthambrian nobility to reduce the effects of ageing and remove scars from war or acne.
Most famously however, Dusk Roses are necessary for the process of restoration. Fresh petals and the stem are necessary components of restoration potions, whereas dried leaves are used in restoration rituals. The magical properties of the Dusk Rose make it strong enough to regrow limbs, restore eyesight or hearing, and even restore mental faculty.
