Personal history

As a young adult it was known for telling stories while it played with the rest of the quartet. Its renditions of Worldbreaker and the Demon's Eye, Towers of Flame, and The Scalding Streams are particularly notable.   Helped defend Zenith during the War of the Hand by gathering information on the enemy. Cantata would travel around entertaining others while listening for anything of use to report back.   Higher-ups from Veldt had entered the tavern the quartet was playing in. Realizing their discussion was overheard they had a hit put out on the band in an attempt to keep the information from getting out.   Managing to escape, Cantata brings the alarming information directly to Zenith's leader Regi.   The loss of its band mates left it unwilling to continue its travels, finally returning to Zenith to help rebuild.   Finding Seven-seven with a Keyed Fiddle, a rare instrument south of Noord, Cantata lent it a small lyre to practice with until it was old enough to properly hold the fiddle.

Education

Was taught how to play a variety of instruments, eventually deciding to focus on its preferred Lyre Harp.

Employment

After the conflict it felt it was important to help educate the young in Zenith. Focusing most on those who display musical talents such as frequently whistling or humming tunes.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Would love to see the musical arts thrive again. It does as much as it can to encourage an interest in music among the young.   Due to the lack of surviving craftsmen taking commissions, Cantata spends its free time playing in the market. The location allowing to keep an eye out for any merchants selling old instruments for it to purchase. The gathered items are kept in the citadel for students to practice with.

Social

Contacts & Relations

The quartet would give concerts during private events at Regi's request. The frequent gigs at the Citadel lead to members getting to know many of Zenith's officials. Cantata grew to know Regi quite well and was on good terms with its leader despite not always agreeing with its choices.

Nice read with some pretty neat drawings. If it can allow music to go farther does this also make other sounds go farther? How did it lose its bandmembers ,did they die in the conflict or something else?

Feel free to check my new world Terra Occidentalis if you want to see what I am up to!

Thanks for the feedback, I'll see if I can flesh that out more.

Nice art!

Your art, on this and some of the linked articles, is awesome. Regi is mentioned twice, is he a patron/sponsor for the band, or someone more important?

Check out some of my summer camp articles, like the dangerous flying jackalope or dragon wasps. Or, for something more light-hearted, there is the whimsical language Gobbledygook and Jaden's interesting job as a guano polisher.

Thank you. Regi is an important patron whose article isn't done yet. I keep running into the old 'in order to complete one article I need to finish five others' and I become unsure how to proceed. Never really noticed how much was tied together until I started writing stuff down.

Cantata feels very real and appears as a vivid soul thanks to the drawings — they do a fabulous job!   The story, however, is very uneven, and I was caught on hold at the beginning of the Personal history, where the style changes to passive voice. As a synopsis of the storyline, I think it could be ok, but as a reader, I would expect more information between the points to make the transitions smoother.   In the end, where it plays at the market, does it gather coin to buy the old instruments to store them in the citadel, or does it steal them?

Your feedback really is appreciated. I hope to update the article within a week with it in mind.   Cantata does purchase the instruments.

Very nice art :D Does he has his instrument modified so he can play them? Like using strong cords so that they can resist his claws?

Interesting questions, I've never thought of it that way. This is one of those cases were it is just assumed that the products are made by and for the dominant species, so it isn't really a concern. Cantata wouldn't spend much time sharpening it's claws anyway, it is unnecessary for its lifestyle.
