Soul Stones

Soul stones are one of the most valued resources on Vasahldey. Literally worth their weight in gold, soul stones are so named because they can be used to capture and channel the power souls of varying sizes in order to wield magic. Mined deep underground where streams of soul energy flow closer to the surface, soul stones are the crystallized residue of gems affected by mass amounts of soul energy. Difficult to find and even harder to reach, soul stone mining is an insanely lucrative but dangerous business.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Magic is conducted through soul stones through a complex process. Broken down, it involves the practitioner attuning their soul to the one within the soul stone and channeling its power through magical hand seals. The six elemental magics are Ice, Wood, Muscle, Earth, Fire, and Air. The elemental magics can be mixed together to create whole new elements limited only by physics and the mage's imagination. Each of these elemental magics have a corresponding, metaphysical, higher magic. These are Darkness, Form, Mind, Gravity, Light, and Levity. The one elemental magic that is impossible to wield, but known of through intense study is Metal. It is theorized that the ancient True Humans could use exclusively Metal magic and that it was only through interbreeding with the other progenitor species that the other elements became usable by the races of humanity.

Though relatively common, soul stones are difficult to attain and so rare to find in circulation. Many families of mages will pass down their soul stones to the next generation. Mage Colleges are perhaps the only places to find soul stones in any great quantity as each college must have enough soul stones in stock for each student to have at least a small soul stone.
