Elysian Bastions
Elysian Bastions (EB's), or more commonly referred to as Orbits by the people that live in them, are where pretty much all of the (sane) people reside on Vasara. These cities have been constructed around the massive artificial arcane suns that light up the landscape around them. These urban areas are roughly split into a few different Rings; agrarian, government, mercantile, and residential. The few that still stand have fairly small agrarian centers due to their location immediately beneath the gargantuan solar constructs. The next smallest rings house all of the buildings that keep the city's government running; this ring is often intermingled with residential for officials and High Elves. The 2nd largest rings contain much of the economic life-blood that keeps the people going. Finally, the largest rings are home to the common man, and often are littered with large guildhalls looking for recruits to venture into The Veil.
There are three of these specific kinds of cities still standing: Eo' Wissae, Hope's Cradle, and Stahlrest. There used to be three others, but their solar cores burned out after a few hundred years and the residents of those cities were forced to abandon them to the Gloom. Those that fell are Ny' Alari, Bornham, and Lightbrook. There is, however, a sizable population that still lives within those abandoned cities using large gaslamps to keep a light burning within their homes.
Demographics
If there is one thing that is similar between the three major Orbits, its the diversity of people and cultures within them. The High Elves of Vasara claim that they have the opposite of their Drow cousin's affliction; darkness sensitivity. As it was a cohort of High Elves that paved the way for the artificial suns through their arcane discoveries, they insist that they must be housed as close to the light as possible. Due to the catastrophic nature of the past, the vast majority of those alive found refuge within these Orbits. Due to this, races that once were not normally accepted in civilized places such as Goblins, Orcs, Drow, and Duergar have also found a place here.
Government
All three of the remaining Orbits feature some form of an “Authoritarian Oligarchy”. Each one, however, differs greatly in how they opperate.
