Grimsey
Grimsey is one of the most rugged regions on Vash; not only containing two of the highest peaks on the continent, but also very snowy and cold. Much of Grimsey is vertical, mountains, cliffs, and deep valleys. The vast majority of settlements cling to these valleys. Home to the Norse.
Flora:
A vast number of types of flora are found throughout Grimsey. Plants can be found anywhere in Grimsey, even in the least hospitable of locations. Flora such as Snowberries and Frost Mriam are capable of surviving in cold, harsh conditions. There are nine types of Fungi found in Grimsey. These can be found in cave networks beneath the surface. Of note are Norhtbay grapes, originally a rare delicacy, rock cotton, an alternative clothing fibre to animal skins, and Slip Crown, a fungus common to many of Grimsey’s cave.
One of the most intriguing plants in Grimsey is the Nornsroot plant. Nornsroot typically grows near fungi and water resources and depends on water and moonlight to survive. This rare plant is Pale green or crimson and emits a soft glow, as well as a whispering sound.
Fauna:
Several animals found in Grimsey are domesticated. These include the dogs, horses, chickens, cows and goats. The horses of Grimsey are hardy and strong, and "make up for endurance what they lack in speed." Horses and horse-drawn carriages are commonly used as methods of transportation. Both being capable of traveling the harsh terrain and climate.
Structure
The whole island of Grimsey is ruled by several Jarls. Following the death of King Ulf, the High King, disagreements over the succession led to the War of Succession, and after that it was ruled that the High King had no direct heir. Leaving each Jarl to rule over his/her own section of island, as they see fit.
Until the Frostborn raids and the Northern War, the Island was included in the Empire of Sarkonos. While under this banner, Grimsey enjoyed military aid from the Emperor's army and navy.
The Broken Crown was a symbol of leadership and power of a High King or High Queen. It was made from the teeth and bones of white Dragons and was an ancient relic of the Norse. The last High King to wear the crown was King Ulf and the crown was lost during the War of Succession.
Military
Grimsey appears to have no centralized armed forces. However, men and women of the island band together when needed to launch attacks (raids) or defend their home. These warbands under the command of their respective Jarl who are largely independent. However, in theory, all Jarls must swear fealty to the High King who can unify the warbands into a centralized army.
