House Cortys
The town of Blood Mountain got its name from the massive battle fought there during the Burning War where a mountain of Highland corpses were formed in the carnage. It is located at the border edge between Virnach and the Highlands, on the Iron side of the Virnach mountains along the High Road.
The House crest is a triangular mountain of blood-red on a banner of snow-white. Simplified, it is stripes of red and white. Runs for Emperor in the election. Cortys possess the Bloodsteel sword Zyltahr.

Culture
Members of House Cortys are often recognizable by being a lot hairier than other Ironers. They are covered in thick, coarse, black hair on their face, chest and arms. Often mocked for such by other nobles, many say that members of House Cortys have Highland blood in them, like the tale of the 'Highland Lover', the ashamed Valeria Glore.
Cortys nobles, perhaps influenced by the Highlanders they have overseen for the last 100 years, are straightforward and honest when compared to other Iron nobles. They are blunt and speak their minds, believing in honor above all else.

History
A general in the Burning War, Sir Torvias Cortys commanded the Iron army during the Battle for Blood Mountain alongside Iqhawe of No Tribe. House Cortys had roots lightly tying them back to the Blood Age and the Great Settling, believed to have some Sacrim blood in them despite being Taldonian in heritage. They were a small, insignificant House during the Burning War, but the exploits of Sir Torvias and his brothers Sir Araqiel and Sir Centustis garnered them great renown and respect. Through these three brothers exploits in the battle, the Last King gave them the battleground to rule over as an outpost once the war was done. They had one of the most important jobs in the Empire, to oversee the High Road and keep the High King in check. They were the new emperor's eyes in the Highlands, tracking what came and went through the mountains, and to keep constant contact with the rulership there to make sure they were enforcing the new imperial rules.
The three brother settled in the blood soaked land. Many would have taken it as a slight from the emperor, such as Sentel, but the members of Cortys saw it as an opportunity. They spent years clearing the blood and bodies frozen into this pocketed haven in the mountains and built an outpost. That outpost slowly grew into a town, named after the horrific battle that took place there to strike fear in any that would dare cross them. However, as time went on, they found the Empire more of a threat than the oppressed Highlanders, and started working closely with the High King, becoming as friendly as an Iron noble family can to the Highlanders. They are close allies now, but none in the Empire dare call Cortys disloyal, for their value of honesty has always shone through. Cortys is always loyal, but they have become much closer to the Highland people than many would like.
With the invention of Bloodsteel, Sir Galienes was one of the first to receive a weapon. It was named Zyltahr, and is fittingly crimson and ivory.
