Knight Warfare

Knights each have a retinue including squires, pages, and men-at-arms or bannermen. Bannerets are higher knights promoted within their army or House to hold house banners prominently which might have other knights in their retinue. In war, retinues combine to make a larger force.   A Lance is a military unit made up of one knight, one squire, and one page. The page stays back in battle and cares for horse and equipment. Some Lances also contain an Executioner when the Knight is wealthy enough, a twisted and poor lowborn forced to finish off Lost they come in contact with and risk absorbing their souls since they are expendable. Lance's combine into Banners. A Banner consists roughly of 20 knights which with their retinue would make roughly 100-200 units. This includes squires, pages, and bannermen of infantry and some archers. Each Banner is led by a single Banneret. If there are no Bannerets in a Banner, then one is selected by the other Knights to ascend to this rank. In a larger army, the army has been known to divide by Banners, but Iqhawe of No Tribe has been trying to implement individual infantry, cavalry, and ranged squadrons.   Iron stands in stark contrast in regard to warfare because they developed heavy suits of plate armor and long blades for their Titans to fight with. Making them immune to ranged attacks and designed to get more powerful as they kill more and more. Each squad has an ‘Executioner’ within them. Someone who’s whole goal is to finish off their foes so the others don’t absorb souls unwillingly. The soldiers are taught to maim and knock out, to break bones and dismember without killing their foes.   Training – The people of Iron train to be Knights. They are drilled in weapon combat and strengthen themselves by carrying heavy loads, running, swinging weapons, and brawling. They often practice on target dummies and sparring with one another. In Soleri, they have specific people who dedicate their lives to being a ‘warrior’. These are selected at a young age and go through long training processes and also get their traditional weapon.
