Nqosinh
The Nqosinh worship the Fire spirit, tending away from the animal trickster gods common amongst other tribes. Instead, the Nqosinh life revolves around the holy fire called Okuruwo. Okuruwo, via the smoke, symoblises a connection to their ancestors, who are in direct communion with the fire spirit. The fire burns at the centre of the village endlessly and is never allowed to go out. Each family has a fire-keeper whose sole job it is to tend to the sacred blaze. Men and women are quite separate in the Nqosinh. The men have jobs related to the fire. They are fire-keepers and shieldwardens. The women have jobs related to water. Collecting water and bathing the men. The Nqosinh have shaved heads to avoid their hair catching fire. Instead they cover themselves in strange paste made from bugs and plants to keep their skin clean. The paste is a dark blue/purple hue and makes them look almost alien.
Traditional weapon – The Shield. Essential in their fire worship.
The Nqosinh people are easily distinguished from the rest because of their purple paste that they rub on their skin, making them appear supernatural, and the fact that most all of them are hairless, hair singed off by the fire in men and women alike. They carry their large wooden shield strapped across their backs.
