Soulrot

When you eat the cursed meat of an animal that absorbed human souls, you come down with a sickness known as Soulrot. The rot hampered populations for a long time due to how many predators prowled the wilds and how hard that made finding untainted meat for human civilization. For much of Vaskeer's history, Soulrot has prevented the people within to expand and flourish in the land. The rot's symptoms include dark green spots appearing all over the victim's skin that slowly eat away at the skin itself like a slow-burning acid. The spots continue burning through after the skin, rotting away muscle and fat alike, until they reach bone. Someone deep in the throes of soulrot often has glistening white bone visible throughout their whole body. At the same time, they grow weak and frail, which people account to the rot attacking the soul itself in a less visible way.
