The Eltaran Mage Rebellion

Exploiting the weakened state of the military, the Mage Elite of Eltar strike hard against the Emperor and his family, eliminating them and seizing control of the empire as a whole. They would then spend the next eighty years engaged in civil war, eventually breaking the empire into 12 separate duchies, each controlled by one of the surviving members of the Mage Elite, who renamed themselves, The Arcane Lords.

Following the victory against The Crimson Horde in southern Eltar, the empire celebrated its victory. the mages of Eltar, however, did not. Be it from either being overworked, under appreciated, or simply a rift in the ideals between their organization and that of the Grand Emperor, their opinion of the Empire as a whole suddenly soured to the point that they suddenly left, disappearing almost seemingly overnight.   Most of the information of this subject is extremely limited due to The Eltaran Empires extreme suppression of information that doesn't favorably show the history of the empire as a whole, however the recounting that has been brought to light speaks of strange events, such as entire buildings owned by mages being emptied almost overnight, families noticing how the mages sudden disappearance and being unable to find any trace of them, some even coming to believe they never had a son/daughter to begin with.
