Michael Stern's quill

Michael Stern was the founder and the first High Bishop of the Church of the Saviour. It is said that he received a vision from the Saviour through which he was told the text of the whole Codex of the Saviour, the most important text in the Church. According to legend, Michael Stern used a quill made of goose feather with a stylus decorated with gold to write the Codex. Today, the quill is one of the most important treasures of the Church and is stored in the vault under the Cathedral of the Saviour in Saviour's City. It isn't used anymore as it is considered a sacred object which can't be touched by a mortal. According to the Church's law, anyone who touches the quill should be executed for blasphemy. Throughout the whole history of the Church, there were only two such people. They were thieves who tried to rob the Church Vault, but were stopped by the Touched guards. The only exception from the rule is if there is an immediate danger and the quill must be moved to another place. There The High Bishop or Master of the Touched are allowed to take it. Afterwards, the quill must be ritually purififed to retain its sacredness. The purification involves springling it with water and a lot of chanting.

Here you can see Michael Stern's quill, which he used to write the Codex of the Saviour. Remember, you are in the presence of sacredness.

Non-believers

Non-believers laugh at the Church's sacralisation of an inanimate object. They say it is just a quill without any special properties. According to them, it is just proof of the Church's primitive way of thinking.

First High Bishop used this quill, nobody can touch it, oh no, someone touched it. Kill him. That is ridiculous
— A non-believer mocking the Church

The Church is dislikes all non-believers, but those who criticize their sacralisation of the quill are their worst enemies. They are branded herectics and the Touched are allowed to kill them on-site. Some more progressive governments try to stop that practice, but the Church sees itself as being above the laws of mortals.

I have to agree with the mockers, it does seem rather absurd to kill someone over a pen quill! I feel like lives are more important than artifacts, but that's just me. Great job!

Great idea :d Religions tends to like relics. How old is that quill? Is it preserved in specific ways or is there a risk that it would get damaged by age?
