Gebli shifts nervously, the brim of his hat casting a long shadow over his eyes, betraying a hint of his true nature. His voice is high-pitched and raspy, each word punctuated with a child-like glee mixed with an edge of cunning.

"Ah, so you found out, huh?" Gebli begins, scratching his head awkwardly under the hat. "Yes, yes, this hat... my precious hat," he says, patting the brim fondly. "It makes me look tall, handsome even! Not like a goblin, no no, like one of you! It’s fun, so fun being big and respected!"
He hops slightly from one foot to the other, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Topsides is good, very good! I fix shoes, people smile, give coins. They like Gebli, gets coins just for fixing old shoes. He has a home with a roof and a woman to pleasure him at night, and he even has two slave children to fetch him things if he doesn’t feel like moving. Life, could it get any better? These humans sure do know how to live, Gebli thinks. But no, I'm cleverer, oh yes, much cleverer!"
His expression sobers slightly as he continues, "The day the warriors came, the bad day, it was horrible. They hurt my tribe, hurt them bad. I ran, hid, and took things from a dead magic-man. Just the hat now, just the hat. It’s my treasure, lets me be like you!"
His voice drops to a conspiratorial whisper, "But Mandy, poor Mandy, she doesn’t know, can’t know. She's sad, yes, very sad. I wish she’d be happy. I try, try hard to make good life here. Not easy, no, but better than dark, better than being small and scared."
Gebli’s demeanor shifts as he pleads, "You no tell, yes? Don't tell Naelin! Let Gebli be tall, be happy. I no hurt no one no more, just want to live, live good life with humans. You help Gebli, yes?"
Gebli's voice quivering with a mix of fear and hatred. "devil-man, Naelin, with swords like fire, red and hungry," he hisses, his fingers curling as if clutching at invisible blades. "He danced through my kin, fast, so fast, like a storm of cuts and death. Naelin, the whirlwind, the nightmare of my people."
He shudders visibly, the memory seeming to chill him to his core. "He wielded those twin swords, they were magic, dark magic. Made for killing, for slaughter. Swish, swash, they went, and my people fell, fell like leaves in wind. He was like a demon, laughing, always laughing while he fought. His face, his face I can never forget. Smiling, always smiling as he took lives."
Gebli's voice drops to a whisper, tinged with a dark fascination. "Powerful he is, Naelin, leader of The Hangmen. They say he's cursed, touched by a dark god, or maybe he is the curse himself. His swords, they say they bind him to his fate, to the endless path of blood and shadows."
