Banshee Plague

The Banshee Plague was the first pandemic to surface on Verdun after the destruction of the Spellstone. It resulted in the death of nearly a quarter of the worldwide population as they struggled to overcome the disease without the use of magic.

Symptoms

The initial symptoms of the plague start as as an itchy and scratchy throat, which grows into a harsh coughing and wheezing. As the symptoms progress and the infection worsens, the subject will begin to experience as strong burning sensation in their throat near their vocal chords. The pain grows so intense that screaming is the only way to gain any sort of relief, as the vocal chords vibrate and stimulate the infected tissue.
The final stages of the disease follow once the subject's voice disappears and they can no longer receive any relief from their screams. They cannot tolerate the pain of eating or drinking and quickly die of dehydration in the days following.
