What Drives mankind the Verge of destruction?

Belgamine: The Battle for Japan

Round 1: Action!
January 1, 2099.  Kyoto. The Battle for Japan...Final Day.   The Archonian Airships were landing as quickly as they could to evacuate the Witches from the battlefield as explosion after explosion rocked the city of Kyoto; some magical, some chemical...but it was the daisy chain of nuclear warheads that worried Belgamine. She had seen the aftermath of a nuclear weapon detonation before, and the radiation sickness it left behind was nothing short of horrific. The Witches would be walking into a world of death.   The 17th Witch Battalion had landed just as the first wave of artillery fire hit the Imperial Army's position, and magical artillery fired to cover for the Airships as the Witches began to board and flee. "Go! Go! GO!" Belgamine shouted as she began to shove her Witches into the landing bay of one of the smaller Airships.   Commandant Sechs chimed in over the magical radio, saying, "Arbiter Neun, what the hell are you doing? Why are you pulling your troops back?"   "Commandant!" Belgamine shouted into her mic. "Fall back, I repeat, FALL BACK! Some...some...MADMAN has daisy chained the entire Japanese island chain with a series of enhanced nuclear warheads. Primed with hydrogen and magical components. Nothing can survive the blast, not even rock. We MUST evacuate!"   Sechs scoffed over the radio. "No one would be so brain dead as to do such a thing, Arbiter! Don't be a fool! We're winning this fight! I'm entering the Imperial Palace as we speak to demand a surrender of Japan."   "I don't think Japan is the one who did it, Commandant! We are in grave danger!" She continued to shove her witches, as well as anyone who happened to be nearby, into the Airships. "I'm begging you, fall back!"   "What are you talking about, Arbiter?" Sechs demanded. "We are winning this fight! And if you tell me you're pulling your troops back because of some sort of conspiracy, I will have your head!"   Belgamine swallowed hard before she saw that everyone nearby was aboard. "Godspeed, Commandant...I'm sorry." She stepped onto the Airship and signaled for it and all the others to take off, making their fastest speed to a safe altitude.   "Arbiter Neun, when I am done here, I will have you arrested, court martialed, and fucking HANGED for mutiny, do you he-" KSSHHT! The radio crackled.   "What...just happened?" Median Zwolf asked with concern in his voice.   One of the Airship technicians, a young woman named Achtzen, began to shout, "Radiation spike! Directly below us!"   "Brace for impact!" Belgamine shouted.   The islands of Japan were consumed in all engulfing and blinding light. The tsunamis and flooding that followed for the next few days were devastating, but once the dust settled the world was horrified to find that not a single piece of the Japanese islands was left. All that remained was ocean, and poison.   The war in Japan had come to an end.

Both Belgamine short stories were fantastic! I hope you continue this series. It's so much fun. I love how the magical aspects really feels integrated into this futuristic world. Great job!

Thank you. I've been cooking this setting up for about a year now. :)
