The Endless Skirmish

An endless cycle of violence. To what extent will people be willing to die for their cause?

Like something out of a history textbook, the rival nations of The Dithian Inquisition and The Vertox Monarchy have been clashing with each other for over a hundred years. For as long as the war has waged on, neither side has managed to advance into the other's territory. The balance between the numbers, valor, and wealth of the Dithian Inquisition against the magic and military prowess of the Vertox Empire leave every battle in a stalemate, dragging the conflict on. For so long have they been fighting, that most citizens of both nations have forgotten why they were fighting in the first place.

The Conflict

Prelude

The Dithian Empire once encompassed most of the continent of Ituin. When a dark age had hit the Empire, they sent settlers into the vast plains on the southern side of the continent. This land was governed by the Vertox Family, who had married into the royal family at this time. The Vertox family brought the people of south Ituin into their matriarchal ways, training the women to be soldiers and scholars, while the men would be laborers and engineers. Meanwhile, the north sought recovery from the dark age through unwavering faith. Already the opposing views were at odds with each other. 
About 100 years after the founding of the southern colonies, a plague swept through the south. The north and their faith did nothing to help the Vertox family put a stop to this plague, and so the Vertox family used their magic and witchcraft to help put a stop to the disease. The churches of the Empire were appalled by this witchcraft and branded the Vertox family and all who support them heretics. In response, the Vertox Matriarch marched into Novaria and rose the dead out of every grave to defile and deface every temple in the city. That was the day the Vertox Monarchy declared its independence, and that spark ignited the conflict that still burns brightly to this day.
