Genasi (dʒɛnˈɑːsi, jen-AH-see)

Genasi are planetouched humans, infused with the power of the elements. Along with aasimar and tieflings, genasi are the not as populous as tieflings, but more-so than aasimar. Technically speaking, the genasi are not a race but rather a general classification of humans who have a heritage (usually unknown) that included some planar being from one of the elemental planes, most often a genie, (dao, djinn, efreet, marid, or jann) which is whence their name is derived.   They are rare enough that they don't gather much official attention, but among the general populace they are (incorrectly) thought to be the offspring of the gods when they were forced to walk among mortals. This makes most genasi somewhat shy about revealing themselves. They tend to either hide in plain site in the more metropolitan cities where so many different beings gather no one would notice them, or alone in the wilderness.   Even frontier living can be a gamble, as many rural settlements will conflate a genasi with either a monster of a tiefling. Both of these can have fairly negative outcomes for the genasi in question. If the genasi is lucky, the locals may think they are aasimar and beseech them for help from the gods, though even this can come with a certain amount of problematic outcomes. While at first the genasi may gain favor, it can quickly turn against them if the local problems are not dealt with in a way that pleases the townsfolk. More than one genasi enjoyed several days of free room and board only to be turned on when the rains didn't come or the harvest was less than expected.   No two genasi are alike in appearance. Some could pass as normal humans, bearing the marks of their human ethnicity; for others, their elemental nature was impossible to hide. Their heritage was nearly always evident in one or two physical traits, such as skin or hair color or an elemental aura. Some genasi did not have hair at all; for such genasi, the substance that appeared to cover their heads was actually a supernatural expression of their elemental nature.
