The Salvationists of Ouranos

Written by UmbralGoat

He will come. I don't know when, but... We will be the ones delivered salvation.
— Bellemier Decious

Ever since the Dark Era, the Lord of Time has been revered as the peak of the Celestial Pantheon's hierarchy. He was the deity that gave new life to a world torn to shreds, and he swore to protect mortality for all time which he controlled. He was the beginning of the Celestial Family, which continues to uphold his original promise in the modern day.

But for as long as the Pantheon has influenced Vernelis, there have always been skeptics; plenty of groups and individuals have questioned Saturn and the Pantheon's origins. The most popular cosmology of their religion tells of Saturn and his brother, Hesþilis, who fought a fierce battle when Hesþilis attempted to shift the balance of order and chaos in his favor. Saturn defeated his brother, and he cast his physical remains to the depths of Ve Neþ, where he was consumed by the storms.

Stories evolve with time, they take new forms upon each retelling. But what better source of truth than from those who were there from the start?

History

Saturn's Creator
The Celestial Cosmology claims Saturn was born of the Universe, a creature who's origins are not comprehensible by mortals. Certain groups disagree with this, however, and a popular alternate theory posits the existence of a being above Saturn, one they call Ouranos. This being is thought to be the creator of Saturn- his father- and it is said that it was Ouranos who Saturn did battle with during the Dark Era, not the mystical Hesþilis. This group, the Salvationist Communion of the Celestial Creator, has a select few leaders who take the responsibility of preserving sacred records from the Dark Era that Saturn's Great Library does not hold. These records include first-hand accounts from the Great Death. This responsibility is passed down to new leaders with each leader's death.

They preach their findings in quiet, often targeting those who are already skeptical of the Celestials. Talk of dispute regarding the Pantheon's archdeity is considered incredibly inane and disrespectful.

The Accounts
Writings spoke of "horrifying 'deathlights' case from the Heavens upon unsuspecting villages, immolating them in seconds," and "fierce thunderstorms and worldquakes brought by a 'small blue demon' claiming to be 'the Creator'". One claimed he "disappeared into the North Mountains," for a brief time. But when he returned, "a great winged beast followed his heels."

Later letters were found to loved ones detailing their impending fates at the hands of Saturn, who "could age us all to dust in seconds with a wave of a terribly large staff...I saw it when I traveled West...the small, royal one watched and cackled at them."

Saturn's Victory
Many of these accouns have implicated Saturn of not being the heroic deity described by the Cosmology. However, the Salvationists acknowledge the change in his actions, as according to them, their battle did indeed end with Ouranos's- not Hesþilis's- defeat. A single surviving writing at the time is thought to originate from this point in their battle.

The crippled king of our destruction...He was overwhelmed in a haze of warped air by the Savior, and from him a ghastly scarlet light shone...The crazed screams and roars of terror do not leave me.

The Savior leeched every ounce of will and power from him...As I thought he would die, the light faded, and the Savior spared the demon. The Savior's wounds were healed, and he stood straighter...Had he taken the demon's power?
— Primary Account

This is a far cry from the accepted cosmology, in which Hesþilis was killed, his body cast into the Blackness. This was before any implications of the world's being raised. It was believed that the rise of the world occured long after the battle, while the cosmology implies it occured near the end.

The Return
The Salvationists were founded by the one who discovered many of these original records, believed to be a historian during a time before any other Celestials were born. They believed that Ouranos was not dead, but simply hiding and plotting any form of revenge he could. They feared what would become of those who helped their saviors if Ouranos should one day return.

They isolated themself with as many close friends and family members as they could gather, showing their findings and insisting they consider what a terrible fate they may all meet were their respite to be disturbed. They went so far as to pray to the deity, assuming he could listen.

The group stayed quiet for eons, silently accumulating members and speculating constantly on the possibilities of what has and will happen.

Modern Day

Structure
The Salvationists have a very loose hierarchy:
  • Leader - The leader of the organization is the one who's responsibility is protecting their sacred writings, as well as managing events or meetings, secret or public.
  • Searchers - The Searchers have the sole job of searching for any information regarding Ouranos' existance and safely returning it.
  • Collectors - The Collectors are the majority; their only implied duty is to find others who may be open to accepting the "truth" and joining the Salvationists.
Revelations
On the morning of the 1st of Iþivur, 1843 TC, a sealed, black envelope was found attached to the entrance door of the Salvationists' most popular meeting area, the basement of a tavern in Vletrom, Kovura. The one who found it was the owner of the tavern, and upon touching the letter to read its front, the owner dropped dead.

When he was found, the Salvationists' leader, Bellemier Decious ordered someone with gloves to take it downstairs, while the others dealt with the body.

I assume this letter's little trick means you will take it seriously. It is in my best interest, after all, that you pay close attention. Don't worry, this letter only works once.

Your group is trite and cringeworthy. You pray for 'salvation'? Mortals always think there is some path they can take to get a leg over others. This is your ignorance. Salvation is the same for all. The end is the same for all. Your path does not matter.

But mine does. We were ripped apart, and I was a fool to think otherwise. Mistakes will not be repeated, and we will be together again. Until time itself crumbles.

All you need to do is attend Convergence. Do this, and you will witness Salvation.
— Ouranos

Interesting alternative take on a myth. the revelations part was interesting, makes you think maybe someone pulled some weird prank on the group, maybe with magics or tricks ?   Outside of the taboo act on talking about the origin tellings, does any organisation or cult tries to disband or imprison them, depending on zeal from region to region ? or are they seen just as a scarce bunch of harmless lunatics ?   Happy Summercamp !
