Bone Bindweed
Illegal to have, painful to taste
"Hold onto the laws of these lands that bear true,
and should you falter, non be punished but you!
There is but one weed that must never bear fruit,
known as Bone Bitterweed, grow this then all defense is moot"
The Four Humours
Bone Bindweed, or Bindweed as it is more commonly called is a plant native to the lands of Paha. Bindweed requires moisture and warm temperate to grow fully into its potential and so has found root in the areas surrounding the storm wall. Throughout its stages of maturity, the Bindweed will exhibit one of four colours most often associated with the four humours of the natural world.
Sanguine Bindweed grows first, fast and quickly sprouting from its seed. Sanguine Bindweed is yellow in flowering and is usually used in the preparation of potions that improve intelligence and knowledge, refining the characteristic curiosity of a child. Phlagmetic Bindweed comes next. The leaves turn brown and then lush green as spring welcomes the flower. Phlagmetic Bindweed is often used to fortify healing potions and potions of resistance. The nature of phlegmatic bindweed allows it to be mixed with the most common potions.
After the spring, the autumn comes and the bindweed turns a deep choleric crimson red. It is at this time the harvesters take the plant and use it to refine potions of fortification and aggressiveness. Exploding the characteristics of a choleric individual into a concoction. Finally, the deep red flowers wilt in a unique way, turning deep blue in colour as they die. Here they fade and fall into Melancholic, mixing any of the flowers with water at this point will create a deep and harmful toxin and so poisons are made. Representing the decay and wilting of man maybe?
Identifying Bone Bindweed
Bone Bindweed can be identified first an foremost by its ability to cling to structures and surfaces all across the land. Though not a rare weed it is often cultivated before it is established as too much of it can often bring down small structures. Bone Bindingweed starts out as a pale white stem that crawls up a verticle surface and when reaching 5,6 feet in height the colours start leeching into the stem. It is this characteristic white stem and the fact it clings to structures that have given it the name Bone Bindweed.
Reinforcing Principles:
While technically illegal in the Kingdom of Estua and States of Midfield Bone Bindweed can be prescribed by certain apothecaries and physicians. Namely, those who have intent knowledge of the dangers of the Blue Bindweed and can sucessfully teach this to the receiving patient. Anyone who has received such training can grow their very own Bone Bindweed at home comfortable in the knowledge they have one of the realms deadliest poisons on hand.
Uses and Restrictions
Cultivating and allowing Bindweed to become establish is a task for skilled botanists. Bindweed isn't your everyday plant. it must be closely inspected each day to ensure the colours are coming along nicely. It is these colours that signify its potential usage. Most bindweed doesn't grow past the Phlagmetic stage owing to the realms constant need for healing salves and potions. As a Bindweed grows and matures so does the price, with special attention paid to beautiful flowers of Red Bindweed.
There are lawful restrictions on Bindweed. Blue Bindweed is illegal and enforced. This means it must be culled and trimmed when it has reached this stage. This is due to the nature of the plant being used as a potent poison by the more unscrupulous of society. Therefore it is not unusual to see in the under markets some people painting their Blue Bindweed in an attempt to hide their true wares. A well known but hidden seller of Blue Bindwind is known as Yani a travelling trader who goes throughout the realm.
