Gnomes

We do not embrace the weave, the weave embraces us.

Rally to me gnomes of this world! Rally to me! I will shape the weave of tomorrow. My hand at your back pressing you ever forward and ever onward! We do not explore the magical arts no we conquer them! And in our lordship over the weave, we will see things no other race has had the privilege of seeing! We are great philosophers of this realm and we must push the forefront of thinking!

Championed for Magic

Where should I begin with explaining the Gnomish race, their demeanour and physical prowess? Perhaps their blessed understanding of magic? It would be an apt question for any gnome. For the smaller people of Verra'Talu take much delight in the questions that keep us all awake into the long nights. I have found the desire for answers their races single overwhelming urge. When a gnome seeks to understand something, she will fix her gaze upon the object, playfully poking and prodding at it until something either goes bang or the thing falls apart. Having the ability to understand the intricacies of magic has been very beneficial to this race. For their survivability if nothing else...

The gnomes are the champions of Glimoria the God of Magic (The weave envelops all.) When it came time to leave our shattered home. The gnomes were taken to Verra'Talu and hidden from all other races in the dark places of the world. There they found subsistence on fonts of pure magical energy. The god of Magic Glimoria (The weave envelops all) had handed the gnomes a great gift and filled their bodies with innate magical abilities to bolster what they lack in physical mastery.

There lack of muscle and strength are often attributed to their smaller stature but only the fool would rule them out of most physically demanding tasks. It is often I have seen a warrior or gnomish adventurer rush headlong into danger. What they lack in physical strength they make up for in courage. When they fight, they do so with the same tenacity and determination as any of the other Star Saved Children. Watching a gnome cut clean through a monster four or five times its size with a look of pure delight and exaltation on her face is intimidating even for the bravest of warriors to see...

Lords of all Incantations

From the well-studied to the downright lucky none can undersell the gnome’s ability to interact with the weave. As magical users, they are well versed and some say this is how the race themselves come into being. Each gnome is said to be a clone of another somewhere in the world. No new blood has been introduced to the gnomes for an age. Of course, this is nonsense for in my studies I have noticed two distinct classes of this race:

Forest Gnomes

Being so far from civilisation does not dampen the playful nature of the forest gnomes. Choosing to live in the green spaces of Verra'Talu, they use the solitude to practise their illusionary magic and interacting with the forest creatures. For a forest gnome no prank is too small. They find great delight in talking and playing with the beasts and plants and can often be heard giggling and dancing near the streams. Forest gnomes may be a bit unadjusted to civilisation but they are quick to adapt to any situation.
Rock Gnomes

For Rock gnomes the world outside the thick walls of their covered home is one of opportunity and curiosity. Hardier to most disease and damage than their forest counterparts have allowed many rock gnomes to venture safely into towns and cities. when arriving they find the buzz and dynamics of the cities exciting and adapt pretty well to civilized life. Most rock gnomes find work as mechanics or jewellers in the city using their magical ability to bolster the work of the other star saved races.

If you are so lucky as to make a friend with a gnome then you have found a companion for life. They are fiercely loyal even to a point of blindness. This has often led some gnomes astray and much to the lament of their fellow species many have had to die pursuing unjust or downright insane causes. None more so than the legendary faction of the Awakened Thinkers. A gnomish group of bandits who believed all of Verra'Talu was a dream of the Goddess of creation Solaine (Be the light that leads the darkness away) and our true salvation lay in us waking from this dream. How misguided and unfortunate this band of loyal friends were...

The Awakened Thinkers

I have had a run-in with a member of the Awakened Thinkers. Though I cannot reveal too much in these pages. What I can say is steer well clear of them. They are a group who pride themselves on being philosophers and intellectuals however their reasoning has been corrupted to the point of madness. What they lack for in sound judgement they make up for in persuasive tone. They could convince anyone Verra'Talu was a flat disc that sails the cosmic sea with enough time. They are a group to be purged from the order of the gnomish race and ones to be spied out. I feel a great deal of immense sorrow for them.

Easy to herd, not so much to be heard

It is with great regret that I have often seen the gnomes of this world treated like children by the other star saved races. The gnomes were chosen by Glimoria the God of Magic (The weave envelops all) After the Pulse and therefore are recognised by all of society as having the same status and privilege that this brings. Their small stature has often meant they are overlooked by the others and sometimes even referred to as children. They very much are not children and this is no more apparent than when the rage inside them builds up.   It is because of this constant tension and fight to prove themselves worthy they have banded together into small communities within the forests and cities they dwell. These communities can be a positive force or as is often the case a chance for trouble. For when a group of gnomes get together their 'pranks' can be elevated and encouraged driven on by one another. This leads some pranks to miss their mark of fun by a long margin...
