Elladrel Settlement in Verridia | World Anvil

Elladrel

"Elladrel is the fairest of all the dwellings of my kin. There are no trees like the trees that grow in that land. In the autumn their leaves do not fall, but turn to gold. Not until the spring, when the new leaves open do they fall, and then the boughs are laden with yellow flowers and the floor of the wood becomes golden." - Cyric Goldenleaf
Elladrel is a forest and elven realm near the northern Ishan Mountains. It was first settled by Selderaine, but during the Kinslayer Wars it became the principle city of the Sunari (sun elves) and is only one of two settlements to have withstood the Sundering. It is located on the River Celebrant, within the Valley of Singing Gold.   The magic of the First Children has enriched the land and created a magic forest into which evil cannot not enter without difficulty. The entire valley remains warded to this day against any beings that possess the desire to commit heinous acts against the realm inhabitants.

Demographics

The city is almost entirely comprised of Sunari. There are some Lunara who have chosen to live amongst their kin, as well as Nandari (wood elves) who are permitted to reside within the city.   Sunari (92%)
Non-Sunari (8%)

Government

A strict caste system broken into the following: rulers, administrators and warriors, then artisans, merchants, tradesmen and farmers, and finally the labouring classes.

Defences

Since the Weeping War, the Sunari have been limited in their ability to possess weapons of war, per the Treaty of Lordimere. However, every Sunari is trained from birth in the arcane arts and martial combat. The wards which surround the valley and Elladrel are extremely difficult to circumvent and to this day provide a significant amount of protection to those within the city.

Industry & Trade

Elladrel has little interest and provides little in the way of trade with other settlements. Its closest neighbour, the Lunara city of Evryeska, being the exception.

Guilds and Factions

The Elven city of Elladrel is structured on a strict caste system, in which families (or houses) are given a specific duty from birth. Not all Sunari belong to the five nobles houses within Elladrel, but instead make up the other castes within the elven society. The five houses of Elladrel are structured as followed:

  • First House - The House of the Speaker. The house of Ancathildin (Brightstar), Speaker of the Sun; the chief and ruler of the Sunari is chosen from the bloodline of the first house. The Speaker leads the Sunari and is the "Chosen of Isha", their edicts being closest to the goddess who created the elves. This family has existed as far back as recorded elvish history.
  • Second House - The House of High Arcana. The second house, led by Quilantas Caerdelian, are the supreme practitioners of magic within the Elvish city and are responsible for maintaining the wards that guard the city, as well as ensuring the Weave remains intact and respected.
  • Third House - The House of the Marshal. Lead by Elenth Delalien, this house has seen its influence wane since the days of the Weeping War. While not permitted by the Treaty to expand their military, the Sunari still keep a militia within the city and remain vigilant against attack.
  • Fourth House - The House of Whispers. The elves of the house of L'ithval are masters of espionage and intelligence gathering. Their patron Oberan is a mastermind and frequently at odds with house Delalien. Lord Oberan L'ithval is rumored to have operatives within every government on Andeir. Recently, his youngest son Celeborn has gone missing.
  • Fifth House - The House of Fate. The fifth house of Elladrel is concerned with deciphering the edicts and decries of the Creators. The most devout worshipers of Wild Mother are said to come from this house. Members of this house serve as the closest advisors to the Speaker of the Sun.
