The creation of the world is an event that remains shrouded in mystery. Even the most learned divine scholars can only really guess as to how exactly the world came to be. Most, however, believe that the history of the world can be separated into discrete periods known as “Ages.” Each individual Age is characterized by a completely different known world. At the beginning of a new age, an entirely new continent would be created (through the work of different gods, groups of gods, or even divine conflicts). This world would, either through some cataclysmic event or gradual decline, meet its end. There would always, however, be pieces of previous ages left behind. These are incredibly rare, powerful, and often-times dangerous artifacts that appear in visions to only the most pious clerics and learned wizards. Very few have actually been found during the current age. They are kept in the strictest secret by those who find them, fearing the damage they could do.     There is, obviously, no recorded history of the time between ages. Indeed, the only remnants of these times are the immensely powerful relics they leave in their wake. Most clerics and historians believe that the time between the ages is characterized by overwhelming elemental forces: fire, air, water, etc. These forces would be so immense that they would consume the world; some fanatics even think they would consume the gods, killing them and laying the foundation for the creation of new ones.     We are currently somewhere between the 15th and 20th age, depending on who you ask. The beginning of this age is marked by the appearance of the great Ozak Mountain Range. Historians consider mountain ranges to be sites of divine conflict. When two or more Gods strike each other in combat the force created results in the formation of a mountain. The vastness of the Ozaks suggests a profound and prolonged conflict. Indeed, many believe that the Ozaks serve as a type of tomb or memorial to the Gods who fell in the conflict. Others believe that the peaks of these mountains were created by the bodies of fallen gods themselves. Some believe that somewhere, high among the peaks or deep within the caves of these mountains, dwell the gods whose conflict created the great range. Perhaps the conflict between these “Gods of the Mountains” rages on; started this world, and very-well may end it.   As the Ozak's grew, land began to form around them. The Continent of Verur was formed. The site of many conflicts, both mortal and divine, the continent of Verurtia (and the surrounding islands) is a realm of heroes and villains, clerics and scientists, and (above all) the ambitious. Fully aware of the inevitable doom of their world, the people of Verur constantly struggle to touch the face of the Gods.
