Ra

Qualifications

Ra is granted to any prefect of Devkarth entrusted with the control of an entire town or city.

Requirements

Ra is generally reserved for women in Devkarti culture, though it isn't gender-exclusive. The Devkarti greatly favor accomplished warriors with such a title over anything else.

Appointment

Ra is appointed to them by another Ra, or the Empress of Devkarth.

Duties

The Ra is often seen as the 'protector' of his people. He is expected to lead, protect, and guide them to the best of his abilities. A Ra is to never abuse his power; should riots occur while under the Ra's rule, they are expected to be executed, by either civilian or military personnel.

Responsibilities

The Ra files reports of the city's happenings to wherever they answer to -- typically the Empress. Ra sometimes report to other Ra of higher standing. For the most part, they simply lead and manage the taxes of the city.

Benefits

The Ra is granted ownership of an entire city. He or she is allowed to do whatever they please with whatever they see within the city. They generally have free access to any market supplies, though are expected to repay their debts when necessary.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The Ra may only be removed by revocation of the Empress. Should several Ras' feel threatened over one Ra's rule, then they are allowed to bring whatever justice they see necessary to punish the Ra.

History

Centuries back, when the first of Devkarti people began to worship Amelia. 'Ra' simply means 'Sun' in the Devkarti language, and they hold the Sun in very high regard. The Devkarti thus grant Ra to their leaders.

Cultural Significance

Other cultures view 'Ra' as a way of declaring one's title as King or Lord. Anyone serving beneath the Ra treats them with upmost importance, and are expected to kneel or prostrate themselves in their presence.
