The Chasms of Vestige

Deep and dark runs this land. Creatures -- nay, beasts -- inhabit it. We must make a haven in this broken place, for we can not return to the surface.
Formed in The Cracking, the chasms of Vestige run in all directions, never-ending. The only escape is upward into the blistering heat of the surface land, scarred from the ancient war of the gods, and downward into the deep, murky, abyss where few ever return from.   Dotted along the chasms, if viewed from above, are a smattering of cities within the shallower canyons and crevices. Most destroyed, their Wardstone fallen silent and lifeless, allowing the true inhabitants of Vestige to enter and destroy the remnants of humanity still within. One, though, still stands as a final beacon of humanity: Horus.   The rest of the world is consumed in a visceral battle between the warring creatures, the greatest of which are the Canyon Worms, while the most dominant and widespread are the Flathead Gobs.

Demographics

Flathead Gobs -   The largest faction of creatures inhabiting the chasms of Vestige. Driven by a need to expand, they have exterminated many of their own kind. Despite this, they are the most numerous inhabitants of Vestige by far.   Chasm Hoppers -   Standing a little shorter than the average human, these insectoids possess powerful legs able to propel them across the vast stretches separating cliffs on either side of a chasm. They are solitary creatures by nature, making their numbers hard to calculate.   Canyon Worms -   Large beasts when stretched out can easily be as long as half a mile. Unfortunately, this means they must consume nearly their own body weight in food every day. Few of their kind live to maturity.   Humans -   Though few, they have survived through their ingenuity and vastly superior intelligence. Horus' population is the last known bastion of humanity.

Government

The chasms of Vestige are a largely lawless place, with the exception of the humans and tribe-like groups of Gobs.

Infrastructure

At one time, many bridges spanned the canyons and chasms of Vestige allowing easy transportation between the human cities, but age and the on-setting impotence of the Wardstones have left the humans a shadow of their former glory.
