Location
A useful if perhaps simplistic Night spell designed to help find individuals.
Material Components
In order for the spell to function, a catalyst with strong connection to the target is required. Usually, this catalyst would be something organic from the individual such as a strand of hair, a cloth with their blood or sweat stained on it, or a nail clipping (the master never explained how they came across that one). Personal items can also be used so long as they have strong tie to the target. These are typically things that the owner possessed a strong emotional connection towards such as a private journal or treasured gift from a loved one.Gestures and Rituals
The spell is cast by the mage holding the catalyst in their hands. They will then begin channeling Night magic through the item and the connection between it and the individual being looked for.Applied Restrictions
The spell only gives a target's direction, not its distance from the caster. A work around has been practiced of mages casting the spell from two locations significantly far apart from each other and making note of where the two headings intersect. The issue, though, that arises from this is that the effectiveness of the ritual then becomes heavily dependent on not just the ability of the caster to accurately note the direct of both spells, but also the accuracy of whatever map they use as well. The target of the spell must also not be manaless as it will not be able establish a connection between the catalyst and the target.Effect
The spell conjures a faint light pointing in the direction of the desired individual.
Unfortunately, it does not discern distance, meaning that the target could be be a stone's throw or several miles away.
Manifestation
The light conjured by the spell resembles a faint trail of smoke, drifting pointedly in the exact direction of the spell's target.
