Tægrid (TAY-greed)

The Shieldmaiden; The Watcher; Old Bronze-Eye (a.k.a. Krei-Yu Kav (the Brazen Mother))

Tægrid is the Sevari goddess of war and protection, and is one of relatively few Sevari gods considered to be consistently benevolent--if not as wholly good as Josbrunar, being rather predisposed to starting bloody conflicts. She is said to be particularly favorable towards travelers and all those who must seek their fortunes by the sword, and many a mercenary company has included the bronze shield of Tægrid into their insignia.

She is considered the patron goddess of the nomadic orcish tribes, who are fiercely protective of their kith and kin and face many dangers on the road, and is often depicted as an old and grey-haired, but still powerfully built orcish woman, even outside of orcish societies.

Holy Books & Codes

Fortitude - Part philosophical treatise, part epic poem, Fortitude is the primary holy text of Tægrid, and offers guidance on withstanding hardship, the responsibilities one owes to others, and what is necessary to live a good life.
The Travels of Jalong - Somewhat unusually among Sevari holy books, The Travels of Jalong does not deal directly with Tægrid or the gods at all, instead being the chronicles of the life and journeys of legendary orc chieftess Jalong and her tribe. As a devout follower of Tægrid, the Brazen Mother, and an excellent warrior-poet in her own right, Jalong's work is seen as the perfect example of how one might live a righteous life and earn Tægrid's favor. Most paladins of Tægrid derive their codes of conduct from the lessons of this book.

Bronzeblod - The most practical of Tægrid's holy books, Bronzeblod contains practical information on the art of warfare, particularly in regards to the optimal usage of spear and shield.
