Tófa Dalgaard (Toh-fuh Dahl-gahrd)
Kulmondi Tórfríðr Dalgaard (a.k.a. Tófa)
Dutiful, a bit brusque and community minded, Tófa is very much a product of the harsh life she was born into and is struggling to find a new place in the world. She is currently working as a caravan guard for Aldor.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
While made tough and muscular from a life of hunting on the ice, Tófa is still recovering from several years of malnutrition.
Identifying Characteristics
Tófa has a rather nasty scar running from her right cheek to her chin that was earned when she slew the saber toothed cat that earned her the title of Kulmondi (Fanghand in Isjeisk). She also lacks several digits that she lost to frostbite, though it is only apparent in the slight limp of her run, the odd stiffness of one of the fingers of her gloves, and her strange preference for throwing a harpoon with her non-dominant hand.
Apparel & Accessories
Tófa's apparel is rather typical of an Isjeinr hunter: an insulated inner layer of knit wolf yarn, a thick middle layer of furs, and a thinner waterproofed layer of tough, greased hide. Her clothing itself is largely unadorned, though it is of an unusually refined cut. Over her clothing she wears a lamellar chestplate of leather and whale bone and a short, fur-lined cloak. Most notably, she has the skull of a sabre-toothed cat strapped to her shoulder and an intricately carved whale-bone necklace around her neck.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Born in the most northern reaches of Veturoth, Tófa was the only child of one of her village's most respected hunters. Her people, the Isjeinr, lived a harsh existence among the ice, carving out a living based almost entirely on hunting, whaling and fishing. Though seen as primitives by most of Veturoth, the Isjeinr are master sailors and have a rich artistic culture centered around scrimshaw, craftsmanship and oral storytelling. For Tófa however, there was little time to partake in these traditions as she spent most of her childhood helping her father provide food for her ailing mother. For several years Tófa was content, but as she neared adulthood, times grew harder and a once difficult lifestyle grew increasingly deadly for the Isjeinr. The bounty of the sea grew scarce, and the long, dark winters colder. Tófa's mother, Signý, soon succumbed to the harsh winter, and only a year later her father, Stigr, was killed in a disastrous whale hunt. With nowhere left to turn and nothing but grief and hardship awaiting her if she chose to continue the path she had been set on, Tófa gathered her sparse possessions, bid those she knew farewell and headed south in search of kinder fortunes.
Education
It was the common opinion of her village that while Tófa was an excellent hunter and a respectable young woman, she was a bit of an idiot. Though taught the basics of scrimshaw and tool-crafting, she never showed much aptitude, and though she tried her best, her results were always subpar. Furthermore, she always struggled to remember her people's stories, in spite of the many days spent in her mother's company.
Accomplishments & Achievements
-Tófa earned the title of Kulmondi (Fanghand) after slaying a sabre toothed cat that threatened her village's fishing grounds. She now wears the beast's skull on her shoulder as a trophy.
Morality & Philosophy
Tófa is very much a traditionalist who believes strongly in the morals and customs of her people. Though more open minded than some of the Isjeinr, she tends to view the ways of non-Isjeinr as strange and impractical at best, wasteful and repugnant at worst.
Personality Characteristics
Virtues & Personality perks
Dutiful, stalwart, and incredibly loyal towards those she cares about
Vices & Personality flaws
Absurdly stubborn, slow to embrace change and overconfident
Hygiene
While not abhorrently filthy, there are times when Tófa can certainly be seen as an argument for the view of the Isjeinr as primitives. She rarely bathes more than once a fortnight, and while she maintains her equipment well, the thick outer layers of her clothing look as if they've never been washed. Even well away from the sea, she smells faintly of seawater, fish and animal fat.
Social
Family Ties
Tófa was incredibly close with both her parents, likely due to them being her only immediate family. Though she spent most of her childhood at her father's side, whaling and hunting with him, she deeply cherished what time she had to relax at home and care for her often sickly mother, who taught her many of her people's most important cultural traditions. Though she has great respect for her extended family, she had little time to spend with them, and only formed a close bond with her cousin Vragi, who she frequently hunted with.
Religious Views
Tófa is, by all accounts, a heathen. She does not recognize the Sevari gods as existing, let alone legitimate, and has been known to get into rather fierce arguments about religion just about every time it comes up. She is a devout follower of the Isjeinr's folk religion.
Social Aptitude
Though Tófa is quick to speak and decently tactful, she lacks charm. Perhaps it is her gruff, straightforward manner of speaking, or perhaps it is the language barrier evident in her clipped, occasionally bizarre Vetr.
Hobbies & Pets
She likes to make jams and jellies as a side gig. They... leave something to be desired.
Probably because she keeps using things like centipedes instead of fruit.
