Attending Springreach University
Springreach University, known locally as SRU, is the premier institution of scholarly magical study on the continent of Fallstead. Mages of all kinds dream of attending the school to further their studies and magical abilities, and even those not lucky enough to call themselves an SRU grad treat the university campus as a sort of pilgrimage destination to see at some point in their life.
The campus sits to the east of the city of Springreach proper, built on an island in Sarula Bay, and is a stunning display of Elven architectural design. Between the large stone structures is the quad, with its finely manicured lawns, gardens, and fountains. Students often find places to sit and read or converse with each other on the grounds.
Along with the campus buildings is the University Library. Under the brilliant and watchful supervision of Professor Henrietta Pascal, the library houses a stunning and vast collection of books, tomes, scrolls, and maps. It is the largest source of known information of Vianovan history in Fallstead, and arguably all of Vianova.
It is among these hallowed halls that students can study and grow their magical prowess.
Basics of Attending the University
Going to School During Your Downtime
Students who enroll at SRU will use the last Downtime of every month as their School Performance DTA. If the last DTA of the month coincides with Double DTA Week, students must use one of these DTAs for school. School Performance DTAs are not posted in the usual Downtimes channel, but instead are to be posted in the #SRU-student-records channel in the Discord server. All other DTA activities continue to be posted in the #downtimes channel (including the second DTA during a double DTA week, if applicable).
Mandatory Schooling for Strixhaven Backgrounds
Players who choose any of the Strixhaven backgrounds, or the perks of Strixhaven backgrounds as part of a Custom Background, for their character build MUST enroll in SRU and maintain their GPA in order to keep the boons of the background (including the knowledge of the spells associated with the backgrounds). If a player does not maintain the required GPA until graduation, or misses two DTA posts in a row, they will lose all aspects of their build associated with the Strixhaven background.
Tuition Costs
Enrollment Fee (due upon initial enrollment): 50gp
Tuition Fee (due with School Performance DTA): 50gp
These fees are in addition to whatever Lifestyle, Rent, or Business costs you may have.
Weeks of Study
Choosing a College of Study
Students that enroll at the university may choose from five schools of study, each with their own focus and necessary skill sets.
*These descriptions mirror those of the Colleges in Strixhaven, intellectual property of Wizards of the Coast.
College of Archaeomancy
Is history a reasoned and deliberate pattern of events marching towards an ordered future, or is it a tangled mess of the passions and whims of individual people that will only become more and more chaotic over time? Can you use the past to predict the future, or is the past just another part of an unpredictable story leading into even more inexplicable times? Students of Archaeomancy explore these questions and more, using magic to uncover artifacts and knowledge from the past.
College of Elemental Arts
The elements hold incredible power and students of the College of Elemental Arts devote their studies to understanding how to harness it. Their magic concerns itself with elemental forces. Water, mist, fire, ice, electricity, and other natural forces are created and redirected, ready to be woven into a painting or burst into the sky as part of a dance. These students are artists, dancers, actors, musicians, and even architects who draw upon the elements to bolster their performance or creations in ways that leave lasting impressions on the world.
College of Numeromancy
Mathematics is at the center of all creation, and students of the College of Numeromancy study the complicated formulae that hold the fabric of the multiverse together. Magic is used to explore mathematics, physics, geometry, and the origin and nature of mana itself. Through their understanding of these formulae, they learn to wield the magic that lies between and within the numbers. Alumni often go on to become engineers, physicists, and statisticians.
College of Eloquence
Highly political and competitive, the College of Eloquence uses the magic of words, metaphor, and oration to simultaneously dominate opponents and inspire allies. Literature, poetry, debate, and drama are primary focuses of an Eloquence education, with many students using their words to destroy an opponent's confidence or to bolster their friends. These students understand the power of a well-spoken or written word, with many of them going on to become writers, poets, lawyers and public speakers.
College of Essence
Students of the College of Essence are most comfortable in the natural world among the plants and animals, and often go on to become powerful healers, biologists, agriculturists, and necromancers. Studying plants and animals gives them greater understanding of the patterns between life and death so they might manipulate them to their will. These students concern themselves with the essence of life as it ebbs and flows through creatures and ecosystems. When combined with magic, the College's natural science education tends to focus on using the natural world to craft potions that can heal or maim, use wildlife, or even the earth itself as a source of power.
Passing Your Classes
Necessary Study Skills
Depending on which school you enroll in, different skill checks are required for your education Downtime rolls:Be sure to include your school of study and each roll, along with your tuition fees for the month in your School Performance DTA post.
Passing your classes is based on the average of your two rolls:
Extra Credit
Extra Credit is available at any time during your coursework as a DTA option prior to your School Performance DTA post. For the extra credit work, make a roll for each of your study checks. Based on the average of these rolls, you may add a bump to your total GPA following your School Performance DTA (your GPA may exceed 4.0). You may choose to do Extra Credit as your DTA option more than once in a month. Extra Credit DTA posts must be posted in the #SRU-student-records channel in the Discord server.
In order to pass each level of study, it requires a GPA of 2.5 or higher. If you do not meet the required GPA, you must repeat that level of study before moving on.
Perks of Being a Student
Depending on how far you are into your studies, there are perks you can achieve and have access to by being a student. Every level of study that you pass brings new advantages, along with the advantages from previous student levels. In maintaining an A average, you gain additional perks following that level of study:
Graduation Requirements
