Magic Items Rules
Living in a magical world means magical items. There's something for everyone and every situation, but access to these mystical wonders isn't easy, and may take some work. There are a few things you need to consider as you set your sights on magic items for your character. To maintain balance between characters of similar levels so that DMs are able to create games everyone can enjoy, we put a few limits on items. These limits help extend gameplay and make items a valuable reward that you can earn through gameplay and participation in the community.
Item Requirements
Vianova is a mid-magic world, and the availability of items is based both on rarity and player level (consumable items are prioritized by level, but have more wiggle room). The availability and distribution of magical items is always at the discretion of Jess and the other DMs. All magic items must be approved.
Wish List
Keep track of items you'd like to work towards by posting in the #wish-list channel on Discord. DMs will use the items on the list as a resource for possible rewards in session loot, as well as during special events when items may be won or gifted. Please understand that putting an item on your Wish List does not guarentee that you will receive that item.
Purchasing Magic Items
Some common magic items may be purchased in the market place with DM approval. No magic items beyond Common rarity may be purchased. Common Potions of Healing may be purchased at the beginning of sessions with a DM, and the amount available for purchase at that time is 1d10+6.
Finding a Magic Item
You may use Downtime Activities to research a magic item that you would like to find. Researching to discover the location of a magic item can be difficult and requires time and dedication in order to find, along with 25gp per week of research.
If the item is approved, once discovered you can work with a DM to create a one-shot session for you find the item. There is no level requirement to beginning researching the location of the item, though there is a level requirement for retrieval and usage.

Thinking About Magical Items Holistically
In addition to limiting access to magic items by level, the DMs also take into account the totality of the items a PC has. We want PCs to have fun and build their characters in cool ways, but we also want to be fair-minded to our DMs and other players.
DO NOT BASE YOUR BUILD ON ITEMS
I understand people's desire for power builds, but if that build is contingent on getting certain items at certain levels, this may not be the game table for you. In Voyagers: Vianova, we see items as enhancements - sprinkles, if you will: fun and yummy, but not the real selling point of the cupcake.
The DMs encourage all players to make their search for items specific and story-based. We are willing to RP and/or create sessions for players to gain access to special items that build your character and your experience in our world.
