History
The Marian Society began at the launch of Victoriam City where everyone watching witnessed the figure of a glowing woman, who most believed to be the Virgin Mary, appeared at the launch site. The sighting caused a deep divide over the religious outlook on the city and the Empire as a whole. Many believed the the Virgin Mary had appeared to bless the city, and as a prosperous omen for the future. However, some people, including the first Hand of Mary- Ezekiel Datchery- believed that Mary had appeared to denounce the city as an act against God. They believed that humans were overly arrogant to presume that they could conquer the skies, and resolved to see the city destroyed. The Society was behind the failed construction of the Fideliam floating city, and for the 1861 attack on Victoriam's water supply pipes. It was also involved later in the rising revolutionary tendencies against the Empire, and worked both within and without to destroy it.The Marian Society was presumed to have died out in 1868 after the great plague took out both Hand of Mary Zachariah Osborne and his successor in one fell swoop
