Shadowsteel

Shadowsteel is a very hard and very sharp variant of steel, created using A'Mi Umbramancy and obsidian-derived shadow essence. Shadowsteel, also known as blacksteel or darksteel, is typically purple ar black in colour and will retain its strength even when made incredibly thin, allowing shadowsteel blades to be almost invisible when seen end on. However, this strength relies heavily on Umbramagic energy and as such will start to lose its strength if taken too far from the Black Island. This, combined with its connection to The A'Mi (a traditionally secret culture) mean that it is rare to find shadowsteel outside of the United A'Mi Duchies. This secrecy is to such an extent that the exact recipe and techniques used to create shadowsteel are a mystery to anyone outside the black forges. Shadowsteel also has the property that if someone of a differing magical sensitivity tries to wield a blade of Shadowsteel the blade, as described by one dedicated mage, "Shall surely vanish in a cloud of black smoke, tunnelling its way like some kind of living creature through the space below our world. These weapons tend to wash up on the shores of Black Island a few days later, as if attracted to its magical force."
