The Sen Archer Companies

More than 30 different mercenary companies or "bands" have arisen over the years, each owing their skill with a bow to the Sen culture of archery. These many bands are hired by all sides and are seen as being able to turn the tide of battle should they engage with a superior force. However, the bands have been frequently known to revolt when turned against the Kingdom of Sen and this can be seen as a significant factor in their rise to promenance. One notable exception is the "Contractual Band", known as the "Traitorous Band" to the others as they have a longstanding commitment to never disobey a contract, even when fighting their own people.

Either Sen made or Sen style longbows, leather quivers for storing Nettlesteel arrows.

Structure

Roughly 10 squads in a band of 200. Each squad of 20 men is organised into a first and second line, with the commander of the first line being the Front Ranger and the commander of the second line being the Back Ranger. The Back Ranger has seniority and commands the whole squad if necessary. The overall band is headed by a Band Leader, who organises battle tactics and a Flagman, who conducts diplomacy and contracts for the mercenary band.

Training

The many bands are famous and are frequently joined by the most skilled young archers of the Sen forest. The test of an archers skill was whether they were able to spot and hit a camoflaged target at 300 yards.
