(name of god of limbo/judgement/punishment/death) Miasma (informal) Miasmatic Septicytma (formal/medical)
Transmission & Vectors
The condition is transmitted orally, caused mainly through airborne gases and poisons from the Ravages. However it can also be caused by consuming water or food from affected zones. Extensive contact with affected food, water and air can also cause the condition, but to a lesser extent. Flora can also be affected through the absorption of related toxins and poisons in the air, water and soil.
Causes
The cause of the condition is the poisons and toxins built up in the air, water and soil from the weapons and experiments used in the Ravages.
Prognosis
The condition is chronic and fatal with a 100% death rate.
Doctors of Fyey-Ahkeer-Byssium and the Kingdom of Vaianor are researching it with vehemence due to its high kill rate in their lands and because Zharam Safina contracted it, but a cure has yet to be discovered.
Methods have been developed to purify affected water and soils, but its success rate is varied so the affected should still be treated with caution.
Affected Groups
As its a condition caused by variety of mainly chemical weapons used solely in Fyey-Ahkeer-Byssium, the only ones affected or with any sort of predisposition are those who live in the areas it was used and those with access to the animals, plants and water affected by it.
Hosts & Carriers
All flora and fauna are susceptible to the condition and if affected, suffer to some degree. Flora species have a higher resistance to it simply because they lack blood, which limits the build-up. The degree to with flora species suffer depends on whether their poisoned by the air, soil, or water (least to worst). So long as the poisons and poisoned aren't consumed (fauna) or processed (flora), they should be fine.
Prevention
The prevention methods are different for sentient species, such as humans and the silk spiders, and species of lesser or no sentience, such as general fauna and flora. Methods can also be applied through vectors of transmission such as the air, water and soil.
Vulnerable Species
Sentient Species- Wearing a gas mask when in affected zones
- Wearing full body protective clothing in affected zones
- Not burning affected flora/fauna
- In cases of official burning - take measures to avoid breathing in the smoke
- Avoiding affected zones as much as possible
- Not consuming animals, food or water (inc. its steam) from affected zones
- Not moving, using, or coming into contact with soil from affected zones
- Checking consumable products for signs of disease or purchasing it from official sources who have checked them
- Keeping up to date on related information shared by governments and approved organisation
- Don't plant in affected zones
- Purification processes
- Don't treat with affected water or soil
- Don't use fertiliser made with affected plants/water/fauna
- Purification of water, soil and air in their habitats and feed
- Culling and burning of affected animals to prevent their corpses from being eaten and their nutrients from being absorbed by the soil (flying birds are exempt as they are less affected and are necessary for recovering the area)
- Keeping them in less affected zones and contained by people
Vectors of Transmission
Non-Sentient - Water- Purification processes by officials - success rate varied - treat with caution
- Redirection of water channels from affected zones
- Periodic testing of water
- Periodic testing
- Don't use affected water or flora
- Don't mix with affected soils
- Purification processes of water and soil, thus affecting the air
- Protection and care of animals, thus affecting air
- Isolation and purification through extra purification processes in affected zones and planting of trees bordering zones as possible
Cultural Reception
In Fyey-Ahkeer-Byssium those who are affected by it are met with a resigned sympathy. It's a condition caused by a war they lived through so they don't really hold any negative views towards the patient.Younger generations who lived unaffected by it view the disease with a sort of horrified fear, but bear no ill will towards those affected.
In the Kingdom of Vaianor patients are met with mixed feelings. They were apart from the war so those affected mainly contract it through consuming poisoned food or water, or through burning and breathing in the smoke of an affected plant. They contract it as a much lower rate due to education of the risks, provision of safer alternatives and simply not having lived there when it was rampant. As such patients are either viewed with sympathy or mocked for being stupid enough to put themselves in danger. Those more isolated from the world, such as high society in safe areas are more likely to look down upon them than others.
