What's the hook?
The four of you are all prisoners at Port Adurni Prison in the Lazurian Legion. What you were charged with, whether you actually did it or not, and how long you've been here is up to you on a case-by-case basis, but the important part is: you're all being offered a pardon! We'll be opening session one with your characters finding this out, but I'm not one for needless secrecy-- the prisoner's overseeer, Lieutenant Lavrera, is offering the four of you a full pardon on one condition: you perform a task for her, it may take a while and will take you deep into the Star-Crossed Kingdoms but on it's completion your punitive records will be purged and all outstanding warrants erased within the Lazurian legal system.
What are we going for?
We'll get more into it during session zero, but I'd really love for this campaign to have a very sort of punk tone, the story I have in mind will work best thematically if the players are a group of outcasts/misfits and the players enter with an expectation of going against the grain. This is not a grimdark campaign by any means, but the people and entities in the world who purely have your best interests at heart are few and far between. Every campaign I run ends up with an anti-authoritarian storyline one way or another, so I might as well do it on purpose this time.
As always you are free to make whatever decisions you want, and I will follow through on the consequences of those decisions and the momentum of the world around you. You're welcome to ignore the "main quest" to do other things, but despite all my video game inspirations, this isn't a video game world and the actors in the world around you will continue on their plans and timelines with or without you. I am always happy to toss my session plans aside in pursuit of a more interesting story I couldn't have anticipated on my own thanks to my players (as with many things about my DMing, Luca can back me up on this, I mean that wholeheartedly).
