Dodlemamer

Dodlemamer is a large mining town that rests within the western edge of Suden Territory. One of Suden Territory's most important settlements, Dodlemamer is one of the premier producers of iron and iron products for the majority of all of Louthia.   Originally an outpost town that was built on top of an existing Atxian warren, Dodlemamer soon found itself intertwined with its co-inhabitants in the heavy industry of mining and metallurgy. The Atxians benefited from having secondary and tertiary manufacturing capabilities at their doorstep, whereas the original human settlers benefited from the Atxian's ingrained metallurgical prowess and innate knowledge of the earth and the ores hidden within it.   Because of its interior location and the lack of main roads that go to and from it, Dodlemamer has been spared the devastation that other larger towns and cities have incurred in the courses of both the Louthian War, and the Mithambian Civil War. Its population has seen swells during said times of trouble - its placement away from the fronts of war has made it a common place for disgraced soldiers and knights, as well as deserters, to flee to, in an attempt to start anew. This has given Dodlemamer a reputation of being a refuge for those who are fleeing from persecution - countless workers in the mines have given stories of how they were fugitives before fleeing into the mining town. Rarely does the town's authorities intervene - every skilled hand is a welcome hand, regardless of their previous life circumstances.

Demographics

The majority of Dodlemamer's adult population works in the mining industry - approximately 61% of adults are in a profession that deals directly with Dodlemamer's primary export.   Approximately 4% of Dodlemamer's adult population is either a deserter of the Mithambian Civil War, or can claim direct heritage from a deserter of the Louthian War.

Defences

As an interior town, Dodlemamer has little in the way of defenses. The only defenses that are utilized are chained fences to keep out wild animals at night.   Along the fence perimeter, there are watch towers that are manned by volunteers of the town's local militia.

Most of the inhabitants of Dodlemamer are involved in its mining industry, or in services and support that keep the mining operations aloft. As a mining town, Dodlemamer imports the majority of its food supply.   Dodlemamer's largest export is processed iron, which is shipped out in railcars to heavy industry throughout the Kingdom of Mithambe and beyond.

Infrastructure

History

Dodlemamer started out as a mining settlement in 1515, as prospectors found promising ore concentrations within the area, and a camp was established to form a base of operations.   During the The Louthian War, Dodlemamer was seen as a common hiding town for those who were deserting their military units and seeking to escape the increasingly bloody fighting. With Dodlemamer's "no questions asked" policy on those moving into its town, hundreds of deserting troops and their families were moving into the town, bolstering its work force. The majority of these deserters hailed from the Louthian Empire's own ranks - particularly from units that had commissars attached to them, and were being decimated in an attempt to reinforce morale.   A similar influx of people was noted during the Mithambian Civil War - the majority of the newcomers hailed from the Cult of the Great Design's militias, or were coming from Mithambian Army units that were being screened for political subversives.

Architecture

Dodlemamer's architecture is highly practical, as it is designed to house heavy machinery in support of the iron mining operations just outside of the town. Most of the utilitarian buildings are made of iron sheets, hastily constructed to act as semi-permanent enclosures for heavy equipment.   Dodlemaner's actual dwelling structures follow a Jacobean-style build - namely comprised of fired bricks and large windows. Most of the houses are townhouses, and tend to have red and brown coloration associated with it.

Geography

Dodlemamer sits 456 meters above sea level, and is within a temperate rainforest. The town is surrounded by vast forests of trees that stretch for kilometers, as far as the eye can see.

Natural Resources

The primary natural resources that are exploited by the residents of Dodlemamer would be the massive ore deposits that lay deep in the ground. These resources are extracted by the significant mining operations that occur underneath and around the town itself.
