The Mirror of Loiselle
The Mirror of Loiselle is a hand mirror that was once owned by the legendary archmagus Loiselle of Arbais. Out of her many possessions, her hand mirror is one of the few that has been traded by hundreds of hands, and that has seen its share of adventures around the world.
Currently, it exists in the hands of the adventurer Jessie Castille, where she is making use of its arcane properties to assist her in her adventures, while using its offensive power to assist in cutting down encroaching Seraxi and helping fulfill her promise to the Eastern Watch.
Abilities
The Mirror of Loiselle possesses several abilities, most of which are passive so long as the mirror is within an appropriate mana source.Passive Abilities
The following are abilities that are passive in nature (they do not require conscious thought from the user, only that the user supplies enough mana to power the mirror):- Lesser Allure (Enchantment): the Mirror makes the user appear more attractive to all that look upon them;
- Darkness Detection (Divination): All maligned ethereal energy sources are made visible to the Mirror and its user;
- Reflective Revelation (Divination): Most means of obscuring a person/object from sight is defeated and exposed in the Mirror's reflection;
- Second Moon (Conjuration): The Mirror glows with a faint light, but strong enough to be utilized as a light source in dark places.
Active Abilities
These abilities must be called out by the user to activate them, and are exhausting on the mana:- Greater Allure (Enchantment): The Mirror makes the user uniquely beautiful in the thoughts of others, taking on the ideal person in an individual's mind;
- Darkness Denial (Abjuration): Any ethereal expression that sources itself from maligned energies is prohibited from entering a 5m radius from the Mirror;
- Second Sun (Conjuration): The Mirror collects all of the light within an area, and focuses it into a small radius beam, wit temperatures reaching up to the surface of an average star (~5,500 degress Celsius).
Mechanics & Inner Workings
Loiselle etched ancient Runescript along the perimeter of her mirror's glass, alongside an array that has not yet been seen. Both the Runescript and the array that contains it are presumed to be part of the Primordial Vulgate that most of the modern ethereal languages descend from.
The handle's construction of blessed silver enables it to intertwine with the user's soul, and conducts mana from the user into the mirror itself to perform its passive and active functions. Cut ethercrystals embedded along the perimeter of the mirror act as a self-sustaining ethereal engine, with the mirror having a high rate of mana usage efficiency as a result.
Manufacturing process
The creation of the Mirror of Loiselle was carefully documented by Loiselle herself, and involved the following:
- The silver mirror frame and polished surface were laid on an altar, on a covering of altar cloth made from the wool of a Chixian ram;
- The Cavawock antlers, already cut down to form the handles, were carefully secured in place, and a goldsmith secured these in place to the frame with silver pins;
- The lindwyrm leather was carefully wrapped around the handle;
- The burnished gold rings were carefully pressed onto the ends of the mirror handle;
- The mirror glass and cut ethercrystals were set in place by the goldsmith;
Significance
The Mirror of Loiselle is a relic of an age before the rise of the Empires, which makes it a vital piece of history. Its ancient ethereal touch is also of significant interest to modern magi, who desire to study the arcane workings within to expand their own knowledge about how the ancient world shaped modern ethereal arts and thaumaturgy.
Among adventurers, the Mirror of Loiselle is a valuable tool for those combating maligned ethereal constructs, given its abilities to not only detect them, but to harm them on a conceptual level.

an handy tool ! particularly likes the process of creation and materials mentionned. Some questions: does it's abilities needs the mirror to be 'visible' like not hidden inside a bag ? Is the artifact seeked by other parties, and does it jeopardise the current owner's security for it ? Happy Summercamp !
