Following the death of Marcus Mitfield and his entire core of retainers and a significant portion of the Talons, Jacob's first official action as King is to reform the core of the Talons, and to select new retainers to serve him.

Alongside Iris, Jacob immediately refills his retainers from the ranks of his house's surviving servants and soldiers, including the elevation of Talon Feather Rachel Belfour into his retinue, and recalling his first mate Jason Marune to serve as his Champion and first Retainer.   At the same time, Adrienne Belfour is asked to select one of her top mages to be presented to the Royal Court. She sends forward her own apprentice, Zoey Caffret, stating that this will be a positive movement for her own growth, and perhaps as a chance to prove herself that she is indeed worthy of the power that flows through her veins. Zoey's familiarization with the Court is also a positive point for her consideration. Without issue, Zoey is presented before the Court on the 26th, and Jacob welcomes her as his Archmagus.   Shortly after Zoey's presentation and ascension, Jacob, along with his new retainers, set foot in St. Asha's, seeking out his cousin, Julian. As they met and Julian expressed his condolences for the untimely loss of his uncle and his other cousins, Jacob presented a personal invitation for Julian to become his personal Doctor. Despite the suddenness of such a request, Julian accepted, and followed Jacob out of the hospital, now ascended.   Jacob also makes the odd and near-controversial request for Charles to release a newly minted clergyperson for service within his extended retinue. Charles accepts this request, and the acolyte Darren Baxter is released and immediately inducted into Jacob's retinue as the chaplain.   The former head maid of the Castle, Marlene Clayson, is elevated to the majordomo of the Castle, as part of Jacob's extended retinue.
