Process of Voting

Frostfire Province is a mageocracy, so the amount of magic you have determines your influence in the system. On election day, which is a holiday for the province, each mage is permitted to go to his/her polling place to obtain a ballot and voting cards. The mage casts their highest-level spell in front of a panel of three independent witnesses, who confirm the level of the spell and give the mage a ballot with that many associated votes allowed. Using the ballot, the mage may cast votes for any representatives in any numbers (e.g. if you have five votes, you can cast all five votes for one person, or one vote for five individuals).

Structure

The Senatus (Senate) is made up of one appointed representative from each family (11), the Magister of Fyorwyn, the Scholus-Magister Academium, and 12 other reps elected by all voting citizens. Each family decides their one rep internally (different households decide in different ways), and then put forward other potential candidates to be voted on by the public. The 12 candidates with the highest number of votes get the seats. From this Senatus of 25, one rep with military service is selected to be the Voce, their representative to the Rintivus Senate. He/she is the tiebreaker if necessary.
