Strongscythe

Strongscythe is a prosperous trading city in the Homestead, located at the crossroads of the Northroad (going to An'Jebil) and the Southroad (going to Greenglow Fen). It also sits where two tributaries of the Homestead River meet. As such, it is a hub for the sale of halfling produce and livestock to caravans going east, and for the purchase of goods from the Rinti Confederation and Jebilah.   The city is approximately 75% halfling, 15% human, and 10% other (half-elves, dwarves, half-orcs, dragonborn, gnomes, etc.). The Fildurie (Durron Cottarda FilDurie) lives in Strongscythe; he runs the official FilDurie experimental gardens as well as running the clan. Gelda Oloda FilDurie is his treasurer/administrator and also his sister. Falco Myloda FilDurie is his cousin, sheriff, and head of the city watch; he settles both low-level disputes and internal disputes in the clan.   All official shops in the city are run by FilDurie clansmen, and have official seals of approval on the outside of their shops. A portion of their proceeds (taxes) go to clan funds, which The FilDurie and his staff use to keep the city running and subsidize research. They are located in the Inner City, along with living quarters for the FilDurie clan and the nicer inns, business buildings, gardens, and so forth. The Outer City hosts the Visitors Market, which is the only place that non-FilDurie people are allowed to sell their wares direct to customers. It also hosts cheaper inns, taverns, and a lot of the blue-collar work is done there. Merchants have to pay a sizable fee to rent space, which translates into higher prices – but you can find a lot of different exotic things there (mostly non-agricultural, non-animal trade goods).   A criminal element does exist in Strongscythe, though it mostly consists of a black market of people who don’t want to pay high FilDurie taxes. The core are known as Clan Thirteen, and have operations in all of the major towns/cities of the Homestead. They also facilitate other clans' smugglers: people who steal goods from other clans (rival clans) to either sell or bring back to their own clans. Even the criminal element is pretty “nice” and tame compared to many places in the world. They tend to be folk who just don’t agree with how things are done and want to benefit their own clan rather than someone else’s (neutral/self-interested, not evil).
