Battlecasters
The Battlecasters were a loose organization of warrior mages that belonged to many different countries and factions. Less of a group and more of a profession, the Battlecasters are one of the oldest factions of fighters on Visctheria. They commonly were recruited from schools and research centers directly into service under either the country's military or a mercenary-aligned group.
Structure and Affiliations
Many Battlecasters keep in contact with their old schools or research centers, but few deep connections lay outside their old friends.Members
Any mage can become a Battlecaster. The only requirements were a stout constitution and strength on the battlefield, to be ready for when magic failed. Therefore, most Battlecasters were also proficient with at least one weapon, and handy with improvised objects.Hierarchy
Little hierarchy exists within the mercenary Battlecasters, but militial Battlecasters commonly respect rank, even in differing armies.Funding
The Battlecasters receive little to no funding from any government, despite being under constant employment by them. Most of their coin is won from battle or brawl, unless receiving a military stipend - about which nothing is spectacular.Friends
Battlecasters are often respected differently in different areas of Visctheria; Everia elevates and celebrates their magic users, while Striyuna often treats them as war criminals, and forces all active Battlecasters to register with the government. Few countries treat them as normal citizens, and all respect them as a threat.Enemies
Not many Battlecasters recognize the same enemies; most antagonists differ between groups as mercenary wars rage across the countrysides. Some of the larger mercenary groups have known rivalries, but not many act on these feuds.History
The Battlecasters as an organization are as old as magic itself. They have worked with magic as long as mortals have known how to control the brute force of the world's energy.Founding
Before the Division of the World, when the planet was just learning how to control the magic that surrounded them, the Battlecasters came into existence. Those first few mages that learned to fight with the insane power that lived and breathed on the world also learned to best their enemies with that power, and began a race for magical power that has not ceased to this day.Important Actions
Division of the World
Battlecasters were most implemented during the Division of the World, when magic raged across the land in a desparate struggle for survival. They often were the deciding force in battles for borders, and the countries with the larger magical forces are known today for owning the most land.Meskaovanian Wars
The Battlecasters of Meskaovania were a force to be reckoned with, and most Arcanists claim they turned the tide of the wars. The massive force of mages that allowed Meskaovania to conquer most of the Southern Hemisphere was nigh unstoppable, and brought the country three colonies that lasted for hundreds of years.Priquish-Salman War
The Battlecasters of the Salmanian army were the only thing that could stand against the ferocious might of the Priquian warlords. Few survivors were left on either side of each battle, leading to a long and drawn out war that lasted thousands of years.Reacian Revolution
The primary Battlecaster on the field of the Reacian Revolution was the Queen Antarah Rolfe herself, ruler of the Corvinian Dynasty. Few dared to stand up to her, and the final battle came down to Queen Rolfe and the future Queen Ruith Liaore, a strong Battlecaster in her own right.Magic War
The Magic War of Estrana, led by Cadoc Godriath and Ascian Thaerdroth, was a brief two year battle for Estrana's lower classes. The strength and power of both the young Battlecasters allowed them to blast through any obstacle in their path, letting the societal structure of Estrana collapse into dust.Major Chapters
