The Myth behind Wisps
Wisps are bioluminescent blue butterflies that are native to old forests. They flourish in the gloom under the tall canopies where they have little by way of natural predators. Their luminous wings tend to match the color of the early and late blue-grays, which is their most active time. However, there have been sightings of the faintly glowing butterflies during the night and thus was born the myth of the
wisps. Myoiw, who live in the forests, encourage the story of the motes of light that lead the unwary astray. It has added to the tales of
The Fae in the Woods, adding an air of magic to an already mysterious and unexplored forest.
Wisp Migration
Every four years, the wisps rise up at night in the forest in great numbers as they reach maturity. This is a phenomenon seen only in the deeper, sheltered parts of the forest. It’s an excuse for a celebration, a time that the Myoiw dance and sing in the night – no fires required. They celebrate by the light of the wisps. This magical time lasts only a handful of days while the wisps find a mate by the bright bioluminescence of their wings then deposit their eggs in the tall canopy. It will take another four years for the eggs to hatch, for the caterpillars to grow, and another migration of wisps to the interior of the old forests.
I would like to watch a documentary on this
