With the death of Marcus the 17th, a military junta, composed of all the Lord Admirals and Generals, have declared themselves rulers of the Empire until a new emperor has been chosen. But their rule is threatened by both a bastard on Himlothland declaring himself rightful heir, and secessionist movements on several worlds banding together against the Junta. The junta has made Gregor Lyons, Lord Admiral of Yeshi's fleet, supreme commander of the Junta army and navy until order is restored.
