The
Sepulchral Guard is a special unit within the
Sunforged order tasked with guarding the crypts, catacombs and graveyards in
Razduna, and to destroy any
revenants.
Originally tasked with guarding solely the crypts and catacombs of their own order, they were soon asked to expand their duties to town graveyards, the mausoleums of the nobility and wealthy citizens. In light of the recurring
revenant plague, the Sunforged quickly obliged.
Emblem
The emblem of the Sepulchral Guard is a red shield showing a stylized golden sun with a black human skull inside and a pair of crossed silver war hammers underneath.
Unit Composition
Recruited primarily from the ranks of the Sunforged Militia, the vast majority of the Sepulchral Guard are trained, and often experienced, warriors. Those units guarding a large burial place such as a town graveyard or the sprawling catacombs of one of their temples, also has at least one priest among them.
Training and Operations
While all Sunforged are trained to deal with revenants as much as with living opponents, the Sepulchral Guard receives the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize the early signs of reanimation, and the tools to deal with a plague more efficiently.
Of course they're also trained to look out for grave robbers, learning the common methods, as well as the less known tricks of the trade as those are discovered. They have informants among the criminal underworld just as the City Watch does, as many of the burial places they guard are home to valuable grave goods.
The Sepulchral Guard is allowed to deal with trespassers suspected of grave robbing as they see fit, and rarely leave survivors to put on trial. Revenants are destroyed on sight, and their remains cremated afterward.
Equipment
The members of the Sepulchral Guard wear the same armor as those of the Sunforged Militia, and they carry the same war hammer.
Additionally, they all carry flashbang grenades to trigger the revenants' failsafe, and goggles to protect their eyes from the ultraviolet flash. Needless to say, the grenades are also quite useful to stun grave robbers.
