Wayfarer's Ration

A pound of dried meat, half a pound of dried fruit, two loaves of bread, and three days' worth of water.
A basic list of foodstuffs in a Wayfarer's Ration
The wayfarer's ration is a widespread type of food eaten by travellers all over Razduna. Each ration is intended to provide sustenance for around three days, though it can be stretched longer if necessary.   The exact contents vary depending on the traveler's taste, as well as physical needs or dietary restriction. Meat may be replaced by fish, hard cheese, dried mushrooms and preserved vegetables are often added for more variety. Fresh produce is also common for the first days of a journey, or after stocking up at an inn or settlement on the way.   Availability of some components also varies by season, what the given inn or settlement can spare, and of course the traveler's finances. Meat especially tends to be expensive at times, though in the areas further toward Nightside, or in evershadowed valleys, fresh produce is what's harder to come by.

History

The wayfarer's ration has changed little over the centuries, in spite of more advanced technology being able to provide better food preservation. It's a traditional food considered an integral part of going on long journeys by foot, horse or mule.

Other Foods

Since there's a waypoint inn every few days' march on most major roads, and a small settlement a week or two apart on many, the majority of travelers don't carry more than two rations at a time.   Most will also forage on the way, gathering berries and herbs. The latter may also be used for tea while on the road, adding some variety to the available beverages.   Waypoint inns and many of the settlements sell rations for a reasonable price, as well as fresh vegetables for the road. And of course, they offer beds and proper meals for any wanderers with enough coin.
The term "wayfarer", in this context, is not to be confused with the eponymous members of the spacefaring Wayfarers Guild, though both names are thought to have the same cultural origin.
