Born in 38 BBY, Sefira was the daughter and protege of Karnax Murne, a force-sensitive Nivari Zabrak who worked as a mercenary. From a young age, she was trained in hand-to-hand combat and gunplay by her father for the purpose one day becoming a gun-for-hire like him. That day came in 22 BBY, when Karnax and 16-year-old Sefira were hired by the Confederacy of Independent Systems to carry out a long string of political assassinations. They remained in the employ of the CIS for two years as the clone wars raged on.
In 20 BBY, the father-daughter duo were assigned the task of eliminating Chandrilan Senator Mon Mothma at a peace rally. Karnax fired at Mothma from a distance with his sniper rifle. But the shot missed his target, instead hitting her colleague Senator Padme Amidala in the arm. Amidala's security escort, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, quickly went after Karnax, eventually cornering him. The assassin tried to fend off the Jedi, firing a volley of blaster bolts, but Skywalker deflected them with his lightsaber and redirected one of them at Karnax's heart, killing him. Sefira tried to escape in the commotion, but was swiftly subdued and arrested by a squad of Skywalker's clone troopers.
She was subsequently incarcerated at the Republic Center for Military Operations on Coruscant. She remained there until 19 BBY when Darth Vader recruited her as a member the Imperial Inquisitorius. She spent the next three years under Vader's tutelage, honing her force abilities and training to fight with a lightsaber in the Shien style.
