Silverstand War Dancers
The Silverstand War dancer's are an elite unit of unconventional Infantry of the Wood Elves of the Silverstand.
The War dancer's specialize in elaborite combat skirmish tactics that involve the use of light or little armor. The wielding of a combination of 2 weapon fighting with blades or axes. They tend to have a strong use of acrobatics, athletics, and speed in their maneuvers for which they get their name for their tactics. they have developed some of their own special maneuvers and formations some of which are described below.
The Dancer's Wedge is a tactical formation used to penetrate enemy lines where the dancers form a wedge of assaulting troops while inner war dancers acrobatically leap behind the enemy unit to cause damage and disarray. its often used to route enemy troops or even to recover fallen members in the latter Recovery War Dancers Acrobatically leap and form a defensive circle around a fallen target to protect him while the wedge makes its way to the protecting members to recover them.
The Dancer's Trail This maneuver the dancers from a flexible front line two to three deep and the line engages the enemy with the intent of Drawing them or moving them in a desired direction this maneuver is used in hopes of getting enemy units away from the main body or to facilitate advantages for other war dancers or other wood elf units.
The Dancer's Vee In this formation it is the reverse of a wedge often used to entrap or isolate specific enemies leaders and such of a unit. War dancers withdraw in the center in hopes of drawing enemy within the Vee like a funnel with the intent of closing off the target and dispatching him to demoralize their enemy or capture the target.
The Silverstand War dancer's have been in existence since the wood elves settled in the Silverstand long before the great storms. To be a member of this unit takes both a right of passage and a family bloodline this unit of elite fighters numbers around 350 strong.
To Become Silverstand War Dancer Requires that the wood Elf's family come from a line of War dancer's through bloodline or ancestry new members through bloodline are the most common. First in bloodline can attempt to become a War Dancer during a special recruitment ceremony that only occurs on the first full moon every hundred years and only a certain amount of applicants are picked of which usually only 1/4 of those applying.
The next Step to becoming a War Dancer is an intense year of Training in combat, athletics and most of all acrobatics. This followed by a 72 hour Right of passage test involving endless Endurance running through difficult wooded and various terrains, along with many tests in acrobatics and single and formation combat tests during the whole challenge the recruits are only allowed at best brief moments of rest perhaps 5-10 minutes, no food, no healing and 1-2 cups of water. The objective is to make it to the end of the test and the final conflict to pass initiation of which about 15% die, another 60 to 70% fail or drop out before the 72 hours is up leaving the Cream of the crop to become War Dancers.
The war dancers are a key integral part of the Silverstand Army they act as scouts, skirmish infantry and even shock troops when the Army needs something unique to get the upper hand. The stories of their heroics and victories in battle have been sung for over 1000 years.
