Magewrights: Dangerous Criminals or Lost Artists?

Could I clean your clothes? Might I fix the crack in your window? Perhaps I could flavor your beer to your liking? Yes, my fellow soldiers, one person used to ask all of these questions and more. They were known as magewrights. Yes, mages. Ever since the Church made its way into our daily life, we've been completely relieved of these incredible people. These magi weren't just fantastic handymen, no, they were also incredible soldiers of fortune. For a mere two shillings a week, they would loyally fight alongside you. This, of course, was during the Harushkan Wars. No sooner did we welcome magi (goblinoids and all) into our ranks, the filthy Church decided to pin the entirety of Odrim's deeds on all mages. Clerics, magisters, and all. Apparently they were the ones responsible for what happened to our naval fleet. What a sham! Using the life of good people to forward their own agenda is treason and murder. Of course, Gentrovich IX let this happen. There is a damn fine reason he is known as "The Fool".   I miss the days of watching my good hobgoblin friend, L'rok lay waste to the fiend-worshipping Harushkans. He was as loyal to the God-King as you and I. When he and his Legion swore against the ideals of devil-worship, they, in turn, swore fealty to the Crown and live on the great rolling hills of the Heartlands. The Church has no right to stop these people from following their traditions just as much as they don't have the right to do it to us.   Praise be to the God-King, reader. Stay loyal, and stay defiant.

Career

Qualifications

Magewrights were magical mercenaries and handymen that handled anything from fixing doors to assassinations. There weren't any real qualifications, but to be considered a magewright by the population, you must have been able to wield magics.

Career Progression

As difficult as it was to learn magic through acquired knowledge, there were a few ways to learn more magic and more powerful magic. Most arcane knowledge was controlled and regulated by the Bulwark. This encouraged many aspiring magisters to serve.

Payment & Reimbursement

The pay varied on the skill of the magewright.
