Posaveng the immortal
Summary
Posaveng was a knight that joined the Vernarian rebels as they fought against the tyrannical Kalgitian kingdom.
The rebels were skeptical of him at first, a man completely covered in armour from head to toe, even when he slept. Nobody had ever seen his face. Eventually they came to trust him, as he proved time and again his worth on the battlefield.
During the battle of Demons rock, The rebels were cornered by the Kalgitian army, twice their size. Posaveng charged head first into the enemy forces, and got to smashing heads, forcing his way through to the commander. This commotion allowed the rebels to escape.
That was the last time anyone saw Posaveng, and there are a few different endings to his legend.
Some say he fought until the morning, until he finally succumbed and was killed by the Kalgitians.
Some say he destroyed the whole army, before dying of blood loss and exhaustion the next day.
Some say he never died, and still walks among us today. An immortal in impenetrable armour.
Nobody had ever seen Posaveng out of his armour, so it is said he was a spirit or a demon of some sort.
Most likely he was a particularly powerful Myotran. But there is little evidence to prove any of this.
Historical Basis
There is no evidence Posaveng ever actually existed, he may have just been an icon for the rebels to look up to.
Much of the legend points towards him being a Myotran (A living, telekinetic crystalline entity) In a suit of armour.
A few different accounts of the legend say that smoke billowed out of his armour during battle, and that it was hot to the touch. This could be further evidence for Posaveng being Myotran, but most Vernans prefer to think of him as human.
In any case, if this behemoth is a Myotran, he may very well still exist.
Posaveng may have been central to the success of the rebellion, and subsequently the creation of Verna as it is today. Without him, the rebellion would have been crippled at Demons rock.
Spread
Almost everyone in Verna knows the myth, as well as parts of Mregia. Kalgitians prefer to ignore it.
Variations & Mutation
There is much debate on what kind of person, if at all, Posaveng was. A demon? A vengeful spirit? An angel sent by the god of iron?
A hunk of sentient crystal?
His origins are also interestingly varied. The main consensus is that he was a guard for a particularly rich Kalgitian lord, a loyal protector, but also a devout follower of the Iron god. When iron god worship was banned Posaveng was torn between joining the rebels, and protecting his charge. One day he made a decision, and slaughtered the Kalgitian lord and his family, then headed off to join the growing rebellion.
Another version states he was brought to life by Aret Vernarius, the rebel leader.
Another says he was sent by the Iron god, a golem of metal to protect them.
Cultural Reception
The tale of Posaveng has a massive influence on Verna. For a Vernan, Armour and defence is everything. Their cities are surrounded by strong walls, their families have sets of armour which have been passed down for generations as proof of their heritage.
Posaveng was a great factor in the virtues and morals that make up Verna today.
During the Unification War, Verna needed a new form of transport, as airships could be disabled at range and required a rare crystal to work.
Verna built the Posaveng railway. A massive railways built to move troops and supplies quickly to the front lines. Its' trains were heavily armed and armoured, just like the legendary figure they were named after.
The railway helped a great deal, and even pushed the Mregian horde back for a time.
Today the railway has been expanded, and even reaches the Mregian and Kalgitian capitals.
In Literature
Apart from a few books that refer to him in the third person, such as historical tomes, and stories of the rebellion, there are also few poems that use his name.
In Art
The name "Posaveng" is used in various songs, referring to someone that is strong and stalwart.
There are quite a few artworks of the battle of demons rock, in which Posaveng is a central character.
