Nitrogen

When most elements are conjured, they are created at the temperature of the ambient air. To increase or decrease the temperature of the created element, additional mana is required. For elemental Nitrogen, it can be conjured in ultra cold liquid form with no additional mana cost. This makes it the most efficient and most powerful cryogenic catalyst of any material. Because of this, liquid Nitrogen is considered by many to be the basis for all Ice Magic.

Nitrogen is often cast in the form of a Cone of Frost, sending a cone of liquid nitrogen from the palm of the hand. It spreads outwards covering and almost instantly freezing anything it touches. With the conjuration and manipulation costs of Nitrogen, an experienced mage can cast this spell for up to 16 seconds without running out of mana.

Nitrogen can also be cast and manipulated in gas form. As it is the most common element in the air we breathe (along with Oxygen), it is the basis for almost all Air Magic.

Care must be take when conjuring Nitrogen in an enclosed space. It quickly evaporates and conjuring in gas form shouldn't be done at all. The Nitrogen gas will fill up a room, displacing oxygen and potentially killing anyone inside. This does make for a great magic trap though.

One Nitrogen compound, Nitroglycerin, was uncovered from Silver Age alchemical texts, though the method of its creation had eluded Iron Age alchemists for centuries. This liquid is violently explosive depending on temperatures and other factors and even a small amount can easily kill someone.

Silver Age texts mention that charging Nitroglycerin with mana will stabilize it and prevent it from exploding no matter the force applied to it. To Turn it into an explosive again, it is put in a glass container and thrown. As it is thrown, the mana charging it is drained. This causes the Nitroglycerin to partially crystalize and lose any stability that it had, causing it to explode on contact.
